A friend rented Defiance back in April, and had to return it due to server issues. He rented it again a month or so later, and it took 4 days to get the updates to work, but he immediately got hooked.
Since then, myself and 6 others have purchased the game for $20 - all of us are hooked.
The gameplay is unique yet familiar. The graphics are fine. The server issues seem to be all worked out.
I spent $80 ($60 + Season Pass) for Gears of War Judgment when it came out, and it was such a flop - I felt like I'd been ripped off. But Trion continues to surprise me, and almost has made up for the ripoff, since I only spent $20.
The updates they add to this game are terrific - almost as if they are receiving a monthly fee for the gameplay. They seem to care enough to actually patch it and fix the little things, in addition to adding new features and so on.
I will absolutely preorder a Defiance 2 after playing this game - I have the utmost confidence that the developers mean to truly create a fun, immersive, social experience for the player, and will continue to do so in the years to come.
