I saw the Four Tops in Las Vegas in the 80s with the Temptations as the support act and remember that it was like watching a live juke box of timeless hits being performed. I got the same great feeling listening to this excellent CD.

Starting in 1964 they had several years of hits especially with the much used call and answer model of many Motown hits and the production of Holland and Dozier. Combined with an ability to push the limits, especially in Levi Stubbs passionate lead singing and the Funk Brothers backing, two early 60s hits of "Reach out I'll be there" and "I can't help myself" exemplify the winning formula.

The group has been unique in the history of Motown music with the four original members remaining the same for over 40+ years until the deaths of Lawrence Payton in 1997 and Levi Stubbs in 2009. While possessing no great songwriters (even though Obie Benson may have contributed to "What's going on"), the loss of Holland Dozier & Holland to Motown impacted the number of late 60s hits they achieved. Fortunately they avoided the influence of a dominant producer such as Norman Whitfield and his psychedelic phase with the Temptations, instead remaining true to their forte of strong vocals. Under Frank Wilson they kept with the harmonies and the hits ("Still Water" and "It's all in the game") though not hitting the high levels of the charts again before ultimately leaving Motown .

This CD brings together all the hits across this time period on Motown and in its great selection of recordings (no great 60s hits seem to be missing) together with a clear mastered sound probably make this as the title implies the definitive collection of this group and the one Four Tops CD of hits to own.

I've listened to Motown songs for years but never delved into one particular artist except for Marvin Gaye. I really enjoy this collection and recommend it to anyone who loves great pop music with a little R&B and Soul in the equation. When I first listened to this collection I immediately recognized many songs from the oldies radio station I grew up listening to in my parents car and the Motown collection I bought nearly ten years ago, but there are a few of surprises. 'Still Waters (Love)', 'Ask the Lonely', and the Left Banke's 'Walk Away Renee' solidified this purchase and its regular play on my laptop and iPod.

Great Record. It brings back memories of growing up with an older father, who grew up with this music. I Got a Feeling, It's The Same Old Song, Reach Out I'll Be There, Bernadette, I can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch), Walk Away Renée, & Standing in the Shadows of Love; are all favorites of mine! The sound quality is amazing on this record, sounding better than ever! This group brings me back to the days of traveling down the East Coast, back when oldies stations played the true golden oldies. This is one of Motowns finest soul groups. If your a music fan, it is time to add the Four Tops to your record collection!

I grew up in Southeastern Michigan in the late 50's, 60's and 70's. Motown as well as R & B rocked my soul. I love this CD and have it in my car as one of 6 played continuously.

Good quality cd, better than I expected and more songs for your money. The FOUR TOPS Is a great example of a group of 4 singing great, clear music in harmony all 4 on 1 mic. vs. a group of 20 guys, each with a mic of their own shouting potty mouth words. The FOUR TOPS is one the the Best entertainment groups in their era.

What can I say? Great collection on this outstanding vocal group. "Baby, I Need Your Loving", "Standing In The Shadows Of Love", "Bernadette" (my personal fave), "I Can't Help Myself"...well, I could go on. They all deserve to be classics. Thank you, Four Tops, for the music!

Purchased this for my 1 year old grandson who loved hearing "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch". At least 9 of the 18 tracks were number one on the charts at some time or other. I still love the Motown sound. This is an awesome collection. Good price too.

Making a recent playlist of Motown hits for my mp3, I realized that I didn't have the Four Tops, and a CD I had was missing. I love the picture of the group on this one. They look like late 50s to early 60s in their style and dress. The way these groups dressed and carried themselves--we can learn a lot from them. Their big hits are all here on this one, and the quality of the CD is excellent. If you're a fan, you'll like this collection.
