This award-winning subwoofer creates an amazingly solid yet nuanced sonic foundation for your music and movies. Its built-in high-power, high-current amplifier and electronic crossover enable the sub to generate clear, potent bass.
From the Manufacturer
The Low Frequency Effects of a movie's soundtrack bring excitement, realism and just plain fun to action, adventure and sci-fi movies. Accurate reproduction of the bottom octaves of all music, especially pipe organ, symphonic and rock add that last touch to bring you true you-are-there realism to your listening. Worry not, Definitive has bass down pat. The ProSub 1000 features a 300 Watt amplifier driving a high-excursion 10 inch front-mounted direct-radiating woofer that is pressure-coupled to an 10 inch Low Bass radiator on the bottom of the enclosure. The net radiating area of the ProSub 1000 is 39% greater than a single 12 inch woofer but with better speed, pitch definition and control.
The Ultimate in Bass Performance for Maximum Enjoyment from Your Music and Movies
Definitive's ProSub 1000 is an advanced technology subwoofer with built-in high-power, high-current amplifier and sophisticated electronic crossover in combination with an 8 inch driver of the highest quality. A complete array of controls and connections allows it to be hooked up to and perfectly integrated with any stereo or multi-channel audio system, and tuned for optimum performance in any room. The sonic result is accurate, awe-inspiring, high-impact, high-reality bass performance with superior transient response, vanishingly low distortion, stupendous subsonic power and high output capabilities. It is truly a unique combination of delicate musicality and thunderous power for the ultimate in home theater sound effects as well as unsurpassed musical excellence.
Advanced MOSFET Technology Amplifier
The ProSub 1000 incorporates Definitive Technology's unique digitally-coupled Infinite Power Source amplifiers with high-current direct coupled power supplies and discrete MOSFET output devices to ensure perfect high-definition resolution and reproduction of the most dynamic program material and demanding sub-bass transients. Construction quality is absolutely state-of-the-art with only the highest quality components used including mil-spec glass epoxy circuit boards and precision resistors and capacitors for many years of faultless superior performance. In addition, tremendous current reserves, high peak-power capabilities and two protection circuits ensure that these subwoofers can never be overdriven. There is also a convenient, signal-sensing, auto on/off feature.
Superior Detail and Lightning-Fast Transient Response
The powerful, high-definition driver delivers rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest subsonic frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response. The special ultra-stiff, low-mass cone (for super-fast transient response) is joined to a butyl rubber surround and long-throw voice coil and spider. The incredibly rigid baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures and large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coil is aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for power handling in excess of 750 watts.
Rock Solid Non-Resonant Cabinets Ensure Pure Low Distortion Response
The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance and vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important energy from the system. Definitive's subwoofers utilize monocoque cabinets, which have been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. Monocoque means that the cabinet is of a unitized construction where all panels are permanently joined together into one solid structure. The cabinet walls themselves are high-density MDF fused together by space-age polymer adhesives. The front and rear baffles are extra thick and the cabinets each incorporate multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity.
Completely Adjustable Electronic Crossovers Assure a Perfect Match to Your System and Room
The sophisticated low distortion electronic crossover is a masterpiece of design and execution. It contains a complete range of hookups, circuitry and features which allow the subwoofers to be connected and perfectly blended with any system as well as adjusted for optimum performance in any room.
The ProSub 1000 features a continuously adjustable low pass filter control which allow you to choose a high frequency roll-off of from 40 to 150 Hz. This unique "dual stage" roll-off is extremely steep which ensures perfect blending with your main speakers as well as eliminating unwanted midrange from the subwoofer. This is especially important because it gives you much greater flexibility in placing your subwoofer in your room without being able to hear where it is located. There is also a separate low-level direct LFE input for Dolby Digital which bypasses the crossover network. The subwoofer level control is conveniently mounted on the side of the enclosure instead of the rear panel, making it easy to reach. It allows you to perfectly adjust the volume of the subwoofer to match your system and room as well as to fulfill your own personal sonic preferences.

This woofer produces great sound/bass when watching movies or playing video games on my XBox 360. It works so well at this, that I sometimes don't pick up on the subtle sounds that are actually coming from the woofer that set make the scenes I am watching much more realistic. Music played over my system sounds absolutely fantastic at all volume levels I have been able to stand listening to it at. These speakers and sub will put out more volume than I can bear to listen too, it becomes too much at a certain point and I have to turn it down.
The sub-woofer itself has a volume control on the side so you can adjust how much bass you want to get for the given media you are watching or listening to. This is great for me since it seems different music, movies, and games all have their soundtracks adjusted differently. Some are low with very little bass, some have a ton of bass that overpowers the other sounds I am wanting to hear. This separate volume control on the side of the sub allows me to quickly set the woofer to produce the volume level appropriate to whatever film or music I am listening to without having to go adjusting things in the receiver menu.
I can compare this woofer to my parents old Bose woofer and some of my friends different computer and Home Audio set ups by a variety of brands. I would stack this one up with any of the ones I have heard, and it hands down beats some of the competition for the variety of sounds it produces. It will handle the loud action movie crashes and bangs, the heavy metal music drums and bass, and then also produce soft low level rumbling or droning sounds when you are watching a movie where characters are on a submarine or airplane. Some of the woofers I have heard do great on the heavy and loud sounds, but don't do well on the softer things that really help immerse you in the movie or game.
After 4 years of use, I noticed that my sub-woofer was not sounding right. It had a constant hiss to it whenever powered up, and during certain scenes there was an annoying kind of rattle. I really noticed it for sure when watching 1 of the Harry Potter movies during a scene on the train when the sub produces a light rumble/droning sound as you would have on a train going down the tracks. This had a distinct "rattle" during that whole scene which really let me know something was wrong with my faithful sub-woofer. I called Definitive Tech customer support, was quickly connected to a real life English speaking American technician who listened to my problem and almost immediately diagnosed the issue. He requested my serial number and address which I gave him, and told me he would be sending me a new amplifier which I could install in the back of the unit myself using a screwdriver. Several days later, I got the new amp delivered to my door. No fees, no shipping charges, no hassle. I unscrewed the old one, and started trying to put the new unit in. There are 4 wires you have to disconnect and reconnect to get this amp in. I got 2 without issue, then couldn't figure out how to get the other 2 off without possibly damaging something. Called customer service and was once again quickly put on the phone with a tech who spoke good English and told me the simple method to get the install done. Shortly thereafter I had my Sub-woofer reassembled and plugged back in. I was relieved that it was working just as good as new and sounding great again. I could not be more satisfied with this level of support behind a product, since it is not the norm these days. I highly recommend Definitive Technology for both their product and this support after you have bought it.
You may ask what caused the problem with my sub-woofer in the first place. I do not know for sure, but at some point prior to it going out there were 2 lightning strikes very near to the house, 1 of which actually hit our chimney and tripped the breakers for the house. I had all my electronic gear including the woofer plugged into a surge protector, and none of my other equipment had any issues. At the time I was busy with a new baby and work, so my TV time on this system was limited and it was a while before I noticed the problem. I would have to guess that this lightning caused the issue, but I don't know for sure.
I have had no other problems with my speakers or sub-woofer at all. They sound amazing and look good also. These quality products backed by what I experienced as excellent customer service lead me to recommend this brand to everyone I know. My opinion is you cannot go wrong buying one of these.
Update:. I am loving the speaker even more, sounds awesome with no distortion at high volumes, well not extreme volumes but very high. I am very impressed. I have had it for 3 months now.
I'm also in love with this guy's form factor. It is small enough to fit unobtrusively next to my TV stand, making it all the more impressive that it puts out so much bass.
This sub does everything I could want. It goes extremely deep, it shakes my walls, it punches with tight, powerful bass, and it has incredible musicality. It's equally awesome during an action movie, a rock cd, and a classical piece.
I thought about putting some rubber feet on the actual feet, but I don't know if that would impact its performance.
For now I'm just going to turn it down a bit and see if it stays still.
