There are only two things that I wish were different. For one, the story was told solely from Kera’s point of view. It would have been a better story if it also included Deklan’s view point. He was the more interesting character as opposed to Kera who was a 20-year-old virgin who came off as naive and ditzy. Also I wish there were at least a few scenes were Deklan displays jealousy. It would be easy enough to do given how overly protective Deklan is of Kera. Also other men showed her attention that is not surprising given that she was described as very attractive. However Deklan did not seem to have a problem with it. For example she worked with a flirty attractive man but that did not bother Deklan. Also even though he would not marry her, Deklan’s boss still found her attractive and made that clear but again, Deklan response was more protective as opposed to possessive.
Maybe it's because my expectations were set so low that by the time the last word was read, I found that I had really enjoyed the book.
The story was interesting and most of the characters were fairly likable.
The chemistry between the two main characters was great and I really liked the time the author took to grow both the characters' depth and the actual relationship. (Though I think it would have been better to have Kera be more mature...whether basing that off of her life till now or making her older in age.)
Fair warning though. It's not "realistic" and pretty far-fetched with many of the events that end up taking place.
With that said - with the characters and the writing, it wasn't hard to let myself make allowances to stay within the story and accept the fantastical.
Things don’t quite go the way they were supposed to and Kera ends up marrying the mafia Henchman Deklan. Deklan just happens to be the one Henchman capable of love, having faith, and being extremely romantic. With plenty of plot twits, family comes first, and tons of danger. I was left completely in shock by the end. I hope you enjoy this story by Shay Savage as much as I did.
There is suspense, great sex scenes, butt kicking and an amazing story in Deklan. The characters are perfect. This is not your typical love story and a little unconventional but it completely worked. You even get to hear about an old friend :)
I love everything Shay writes but this one is one of my favorites.
Buy and read this one you won't be disappointed.
I had the happiest feelings floating through me when I read this because it nailed it! It nailed the awkwardness of arranged marriage. It nailed the pressures. It nailed the characters it set out to do.
The characters sang throughout the book, they stayed true to themselves and each had a believable arc respectively. I didn't want to constantly throw something at their head (which is a relief.) Yes, she hid something from him and yes, she shouldn't have. Yes, he did the same but it made sense. This was not them being stubborn or egotistical or i-can-solve-my-problems-by-myself drama. There was genuine misunderstanding on her part and genuine protectiveness on his. I loved that.
I also especially love the details in the book. There was a small detail of Deklan peeing with the bathroom door open and its such a testament to domesticity. I was pleasantly surprised to see how craftily the author established ease and comfort between the characters.
The story was fast paced with amazing hot scenes. I loved the side character of Sean's sister. She was awesome and one of my favourites in the book.
I really hope there is a sequel in this series. I loved the plot Shay Savage has built. And I'm really looking forward to explore other secondry characters should they get their own books.
This story gets a well-deserved 5.0 from me. I highly recommend you to read it.
All my love,
