Toni Aleo and the Assassins have returned and I’m so damn excited. You may be thinking….but the Assassins haven’t left…the last book Face-Off at the Altar was about the Assassins. Right? Well, when I say they’ve returned I mean Toni has revived this series for me in a big way. I was almost ready to say that it was time for me and this series to part ways.
Before you start burning things and throwing stuff my direction, let me explain…
I’ve been a fan of the Assassins and of Toni Aleo’s writing for a long time, but I don’t think I’ve made any secret of the fact that the Sinclair’s as a whole were not my favorite people (I’m giving a pass to Jace in that statement). I also hated Jordie Thomas with an unholy passion… I know a lot of people loved Jordie…he just ticked me right off… a lot. Let’s just leave it at I was starting to worry that the Assassins draw may have been coming to a close for me.
But, I have to give kudos to Toni. She has resurrected my love for the Assassins with this story of Vaughn and Brie. I am in awe yet again and my faith is restored. I loved this book from beginning to end. I’m not saying that Vaughn didn’t have his issues…don’t we all. But the whole background for this story was what convinced me to give the Assassins one more chance. And I’m so glad I did!
Brie is my newest favorite heroine. She is such a great character to read. She is what we should be raising our daughters to be. She holds herself to an incredibly high standard in her job, in how she takes care of her brother Rod and how she allows herself to be treated by others. The scene with the speed dating had me laughing out loud. There was a time or two that I thought she might have been edging into fighting her attraction to Vaughn a little too hard, but she never fell into where I thought she was just fighting it to be stubborn. She had some legitimate concerns.
Vaughn on the other hand, did actually make me cuss him out a few times. I get he’s not had the best history with people he’d chosen to trust, but it’s pretty obvious that Brie is nothing like the people in his past. I was a little irritated that he was ruining a fantastic thing with Brie just because he was gun shy. And he fought those feelings for Brie hard. Only the depth of his love for his brother and how he chose to express it was what kept the balance between what seemed like two separate personalities and ended up just making me love him more. But damn, that man is a stubborn bastard.
Like a lot of Aleo’s books, this book sets up a whole cast of new characters I can honestly say that I am looking forward to meeting again. I haven’t been this excited for a new book in this series since Laces and Lace. Fantastic writing, fun banter between Vaughn and Brie and a list of other characters who are lovable to the extreme. I’m not so patiently waiting to find out what happens from here. Delayed Call has breathed new life into this series for me.
Vaughn and Brie have a love & hate relationship and cannot tolerate one another. While Brie hates interviewing Vaughn, Vaughn always finds a way to ruin her interviews. While the banter between them is hilarious, their chemistry is off the charts. Even though they cannot tolerate each other, some events push them to set aside their difference and start to tolerate one another. Once they start to get to know each other, they realize how much they have in common. It was great to see how they bonded through Rodney and Nate Way. Even after they become a couple the banter between them still goes on and will put a smile on your face. Unfortunately, their relationship is not full of rainbows and smiles. Due to their pasts, they both have issues to get over. Watching them to help each other to get over these issues were both sweet and heart breaking. While their pasts brought me to tears, the banter between them put a smile on my face. Are you curios about Nate Way, how they bonded, and their pasts? Then I suggest you to start reading the book ASAP :)
If you are looking for a sweet, fun, sexy and emotional read ‘Delayed Call’ is definitely for you. I cannot pass without mentioning that I love how in all her books Toni Aleo includes the importance of family, friendship, trust and love. I cannot wait to read the next book of the series.
Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Already did.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.

'He was the downright biggest A****** she had ever met,and she did not like him.....'(Brie)
So with this the 11th in the Assassins series (a favorite of mine for some time) we are focused on Assassin player Vaughn Johansson, and team reporter Brianna(Brie) Soledad. From previous in this series,we have seen interactions of these two, often bickering, winding each other up,all the while oblivious to the obvious to everyone else-the attraction that simmers away underneath all the verbal jibes- only a matter of time till that bubbled to the surface! The book blurb gives enough away, but there is another side to the cocky star player-one that not many know about, and he would rather keep it that way-until he can't.
I enjoyed this story,it was hilarious in quite a few moments(the banter between Vaughn and his buddy(s) Jensen and Wells) there was some pretty hotness between Vaughn and Brie when the inevitable happened, emotional with the reveal of Vaughn's past, and with how Brie was with her brother...the assassins team and its owner Ellie Adler-who again knows her team better that they think, and the set up for the next story (am hoping it will be Jensen and Wren-Wells' sister/team therapist) I won't say much more as it would spoil for those who haven't read it.
As for the two main characters Brie and Vaughn. I really loved them both. They worked so well together and from the moment they started sparring with each other. I knew, when they finally got together it was going to be hot! and it was. But not only that they were so much fun together and I laughed constantly at their banter. I also felt like they had been together a lot longer than they actually were because their relationship felt so believable and natural too.
I have to say though its been awhile since I last read a book in the Assassins series. Yet it never once felt that way and I certainly didn't feel like I had missed out on anything. Plus I loved all the new characters including Brie's brother Rodney and those now associated with the Assassins including Vaughn's best friend and team mate Jenson whose story I would really like to read. Especially with the bombshell Wren drops on Vaughn towards the end of this story.
As for Delayed Call, I would happily recommend it to others. Especially to fans of the series or even those of you who love a great Hockey/Sports Romance as this really is a story worth reading.

I love the way the author has created a chemistry between not only the main characters but also all the sub characters as well. I know I have been a fan of Toni Aloe since her first book but with this book I fell in love with her world a little bit more.
A must read for anyone who... well just anyone.
