Good book, I suppose, maybe more meant for younger readers than me. And I think the story was stretched a bit too far, a bit over done. But still, made me shed a few tears anyway.
Mia is just such a teen, one of the obscure masses at her high school who just doesn't fit in; she's smart, a misfit, a target of the mean girls, and overlooked by the hot guys she wants to be noticed by. Throw in a little harmless dysfunction at home and, yep, Mia is as typical as it gets.
Enter Chelsea, a cool, fearless girl from the wrong side of the tracks who zooms into school and amazingly latches on to Mia. Mia sees Chelsea as a ticket to the "it" crowd, and if she has to compromise her morals a little bit, well, so be it.
This story is an interesting one because not only do you see Chelsea's recklessness rubbing off on Mia, but you also see Mia's goodness rubbing off on Chelsea. But, as is often the case in stories like this, the center cannot hold.
There is a definite message to be found in On Delicate Wings. Many of the supporting characters were little more than stereotypes for me, but Mia and Chelsea were well thought-out and interesting. I would recommend this book for teens.
The MC, Mia, has to deal with a lot of dark and difficult subjects that unfortunately many teens face nowadays; bullying, peer pressure, dysfunctional families, just to name a few. L.J. Higgins handles it all with such realism and the story completely draws you in.
I highly recommend this book for older teens and adults alike. It will entertain you, move you and break your heart. Great job, Ms. Higgins!
When Mia meets Chelsea, her life is flipped upside down and she finds herself getting pulled out of the shadows she used to reside in. But Mia quickly learns that there's more to Chelsea than meets the eye and as they get closer, the more she learns that things aren't always as they seem.
On Delicate Wings is a well crafted story about two teens in high school that are from two completely different worlds. It addresses real life issues and draws you into their stories. It keeps you reading to find what becomes of them and their friendship.
I really enjoyed the reality figure of this story and the message it teaches teens. It's a very inspiring novel that fans of Contemporary Fiction won't want to miss.
Mia is a girl who operates on the invisible side. She has a best friend and a good relationship with her mother, but at school she goes by unnoticed. The boy she likes doesn't know she exists and the "in" crowd could care less.
When a new girl wants to be Mia's friend, she thinks that's the answer to her dismal life. But Chelsea isn't just any high schooler. She's troubled beyond what Mia could imagine. Will sticking by her side give Mia the in she's always wanted or will it break her beyond repair?
With a shocking ending that no one sees coming, this book will break you. It's so well done and you can't help but feel for each and every one of these characters as they try to navigate more than any teenager should have to.
Be prepared to cry, but don't let that turn you away from a book you won't soon forget.
