So, last year when they decided to end their time as a band I was bummed. But I did get to see their final concert on television and it was outstanding. And then, amazon recommended to me Martin Smith's (the lead singer) new autobiography, Delirious: My Journey with The Band, a Growing Family, and an Army of History Makers, I was pretty stoked.
The book itself is a rush. Smith lets you in to see how he ended up singing in a band, all the way from how God changed his life to the business sides of things that they struggled to balance. It's honest and refreshing to read, especially if you are into Delirious. There's even some serious critique of american christian music and the christian music industry - stuff you won't hear from someone who still wants their label to sell records for them.
For me personally, this book came at a perfect time in my life. God used it to open me up a little more and bring some real fresh life to our relationship. It's been so good for me and so freeing. I don't know why or what happened, but I like it!
If you, like me, are not a musician, this book is still a very worthwhile read.
In my opinion this book is good for all ages but especially if you have a pre-teen through young adult, this would be great for them. Have a music fan get them this book. If you are interested in church music, worship music, Contemporary Christian music, get this book.

But as I read this book I found myself looking out what I'd got from Delirious and appreciating it in a new way. That's partly due to Martin Smith's honesty in this book. He shares his questions, struggles, and disapointments as well as the joys and successes.
His questions encourage other questions and eventually a dialogue between the reader and God, concerning worship, justice, calling, mission, family, ambition, songs, art, and so much more.
An excellent book. I'm hoping and praying that the questions it inspired in me continue to work on my soul.
Martin writes honestly about his years with the band and the formation of his family and passions. Having run worship events in the past, similar to CUTTING EDGE, it has been fascinating to read how Martin and the band listened to God in the early stages and how their small worship group expanding into a world wide army of Historymakers!
