5 out of 5 stars
The story Deliverance by Kristy Centeno is a paranormal/fantasy romance book. I absolutely loved reading this book. It has a captivating storyline and characters that will have you believing in their cause and rooting for them to win all the way. It is also a story about discovering all about oneself and helping others to find themselves as well. The main characters are Tiger and Kristina. Once they meet their worlds will never be the same. Tiger has never seen the outside world. He has been locked away and treated cruelly. Tiger is someone who has only known hatred, however, he knows enough that what he is being asked to do is wrong and he rebels against those who have caged him. Once he is in the outside world he is like a child. Just the simple task of dressing himself takes great effort. Once he meets Kristina his world and his emotions change. From his experiences humans only cause pain. He finds out though Kristina that is not always the case. She is the main reason that he is able to survive in the outside world. Tiger is resolved to keep Kristina safe from harm.
Kristina is a warm-hearted person who would help anyone. This is shown when she stops to assist Tiger when he needs it the most. Her life has been touched by tragedy, however, she doesn’t seem to let that affect her outlook. She is very skeptical of Tiger when they first meet and doesn’t completely trust him, however as they get to know each other more she finds that her feelings towards him change.
I love how this story goes into detail regarding Tiger’s life. It does show the ugly side of selfishness and greed in some people, however, it also shows how when things get rough you have those you can depend on. There are many other characters in this book that are just as wonderful as Tiger and Kristina. They have their part to play in this story and I couldn’t see the book being written without them. If you love paranormal stories with plenty of action, mystery, and even romance, you will love this book.
As for details, I plan to keep them short and sweet with a few favorite supporting quotations from the reading. I truly believe it would be a disservice to divulge too much in my review. One must enjoy this book themselves to fully grasp how great it is.
Tiger has spent the past 25 years locked away in the Radcliffe Institute. He is tortured within inches of his life regularly and is simply dreaming of a day when he can escape the walls that imprison him, and he can taste the freedom of the outside human world. He refuses to be the monster that the world he has grown up in wants him to be.
“Bringing out the worst in me reminds them I’m not their equal. That I will never be fit to live in their world like a normal person.”
“The constant abuse of power is a mindless attempt at polluting my soul with their concept of superiority. I’m inferior to them. A being created in a lab, birthed by an otherworldly mother forced to carry me to term. They never fail to bring to mind how opposite we are. Their views are not entirely implausible. The main difference between us lies in the simple fact that I am not human.”
“Heavy raindrops saturate my body with cold water almost as soon as I am out the window. The drastic change in a temperature shocks me, but my system works quickly to regulate heat. I land a moment later on muddy, wet dirt. I glance down at my bare toes digging into the thick soil and wonder- for a fraction of a second- what it would be like to be truly free. To not be forced to kill. To find out what the world outside of Radcliffe Institute has to offer.”
During his escape he literally runs into Kristina and they set out on a journey across the country to find out how to outrun the men chasing him at the institute and ways to save all the others back at it. During which we find out a lot of backstory on who and what Tiger is, as well as Kristina and how her grandmother, Rose, plays a part in everything as well. There is also some falling in love thrown in here for added bonus to this story, because one thing Tiger is, is swoon worthy.
“I will figure it out. You better not be a threat, or you’ll be sorry.”
“Am I the only one who thinks this is completely unrealistic? Not to mention disturbing.”
And for one of my absolute favorite quotations in the book…
“The future is not always certain. Things change Nothing is written. The human mind is very complex and Tiger is not the exception to the rule.”
How true is it that nothing in life is certain? Nothing written in stone? This book will hook you from page one to the very end and leave you with baited breath for the next book to come. Thanks so much for such an awesome eye-opening experience to this genera, Kristy Centeno!
