I'm a huge LA Cotton fan and I've not ready anything by Jenny Siegel before, but if this book is an example of what they write together, then I'm SOLD! This book was totally not what I've come to expect for Ms. Cotton and what a pleasure it was to read it.

The characters Dawson and Joy were high school sweethearts and had plans for the rest of their lives. However, something prevented that from happening and Dawson left town and he never planned on returning. He always thought Joy had left Chancing to pursue her dreams. Imagine his surprise when he returns three years later and runs into Joy. On the outside, for the most part, she looked like "his Joy" but there was definitely something missing.

What Dawson doesn't know is that Joy now belongs to another man and her life has been less than perfect. What Joy doesn't know is that Dawson still loves her and he's bound and determined to prove his love for her once and for all.

I loved how alpha Dawson was and how determined he was to get Joy back. Their love for each other never died and even though it would be best for him to turn around and leave town again because Joy's current boyfriend is not a nice man, Dawson doesn't listen. This was an intense read and there was plenty of suspense involved and I was captivated by the story.

This was well written and I couldn't tell which author was writing which portion which is always tricky when authors collaborate together. While there is no cliffhanger in the true sense of the word, I'm hoping the next book is Lex's story!

In this book our two main characters are Joy and Dawson, they were in love when they teenagers but something bad happened that sent Dawson away for a long time. He thought Joy had left their small town of Chancing so he never returned. But three years later, he is going back for his mother's funeral. He bumps into Joy at the local diner on his return and all these feelings come rushing back. But there's something different about Joy, she no longer has the sparkle she once did.
But things have changed in the three years Dawson has been away and Joy is no longer Dawson's. She belongs to another and it would be safer for everyone if Dawson left town.

I am a huge L.A fan, I have read all her previous books and they are all fantastic reads. So I was really excited to get this one. But there were a few things that bugged me so let's start with those.
The story was slow going for about the first 40% of the book, not a lot happening, and it wasn't really keeping my interest.
I also wanted more information, more, more, more. I wanted more information on what Joy was like growing up, we had no mention of her parents, or her life before Dawson. The same thing with Dawson, no background information before his time with Joy when they were kids.
But there was something about this book, I liked the characters and I think if there were more information on them, I would of loved them.
I also really enjoyed the storyline, after the first 40% more started to happen and it kept my interest going.
I love a second chance love story and this was really good. But there were some dark parts to the story. Joy had been through so much since Dawson leaving, how she managed to get through it, I don't know.

5+ stars. Reviewed on behalf of A Book Lover's Emporium book blog

OMFG where do I begin with this book? I LOVED IT. Bring on the next installment is all I have to say.

I’ve read LA Cotton’s novels before and she is one of my favourite writers so I knew I would love this book even though from reading the blurb it’s not what I expected from her. I’ve never read any of Jenny Siegel’s books before but believe me I will be checking her books out now if this collaboration is anything to go by.

This is about a second chance at love for Joy Mathers and Dawson Spencer. After an incident a few years ago leaves Joy alone and Dawson in prison, both their lives and dreams change and not for the better.

Joy is left in the town of Chancing with her and Dawson’s best friend Donnie and the reality of watching her dreams slip from between her fingers. Dawson is no longer in her life, even when he is released from prison and Donnie has a dark side that rears its very ugly head, trapping her in a life of drink, drugs and debauchery with no chance of escape.

Dawson didn’t think he would ever come back to his home town after his stint in prison and his new career path with cell mate and friend Lex, but coming back for his mother’s funeral and seeing his brother Mikey, old wounds open up and once he sees Joy still working in the same diner she did when she was 16, he realises that not all is well with their lives. He decides there and then that he’d left her once, he won’t leave her again. One problem – she is no longer his girl. She belongs to Donnie.

And so begins the dark and gritty tale of their love that never died and their fight to be free and together. But will they get their HEA a second time around?
