The outer covering on the cables used on Dell adapters (at least, this design, of which I've used two) tend to split open and expose the inner wires. In my experience this will happen at any location in which they go from a firm piece of the plug to the bendable rubber/plastic of the main wire. I have the adapter sitting next to me and I can clearly see the inner white, blue, and grey wires. Naturally, these are shielded, so there's no risk of shock (currently), but it's still bothersome.
When the power supply I ordered arrived, it was not what I was expecting.
It was a Flextronic which is a different manufacture of Delta which I ordered from the image. I contacted the seller about the issue and he mentioned that it should be fine. I read that Alienware laptops are sensitive when it comes to power supplies. Maybe other laptops would be fine with it though.
I finally did try it for a brief moment. When I did, the Flextronic 240w couldn't keep up with the power demand of my laptop during game play which caused by screen to flicker constantly.
The screen would flicker and the power notification on screen would bounce back and for between batter and AC. I took the battery out and tried just the adapter and it only ran for about 1 minute before my laptop shut off as soon as I started game up. Not enough juice. Running from battery only my laptop worked fine.
I wouldn't recommend this power supply for an Alienware 17x R3 with all the upgrades.
The Original OEM I had was a Delta GA240PE1-00 DP/N 0J211H that lasted for 3 years.
The Seller was very fast in responding to this issue and resolving the issue.
5 Stars for the Great customer service...
The Fans on the laptop seems to be on all the time now with this new Power Brick. Coincidence????
