The system was easy to set up and it worked (mostly) out of the box. Some problems on booting were quickly identified by Dell (who responded promptly) as a defective motherboard. They dispatched a technician to my house with a new motherboard which, it turned out, was defective as well. He returned with another new board and that cleared up the hardware issues. All of this was handled quickly and competently. (I'm not qualified to say anything about Dell's quality control.) Software was another matter. What worked transferred seamlessly. When something no longer worked, it was due to compatability issues that I probably should have known more about. For instance, I was unaware (and should have been) that system 7 doesn't recognize 3-1/2" floppy disk devices. Getting the contents transferred to cds or migrating to hard disk didn't do it for me. Microsoft must have recognized that this would be a problem because they have a fix which, of course, requires a system upgrade (home premium to professional in my case). So the Dell is lovely -- just do system 7 homework.

I was thinkg of going cheaper and I'm glad I didn't. After doing some research this desktop is actually very good for its Price. The monitor is good HD quality. I purchased this PC back in March and forgot to comment. Runs very well no funky glitches. The only down fall is that you can hear the hard drive running. But, you get use to that. Now I have it placed under my desk and don't even hear it at all. Oh, take care of the speakers. They are pretty sensitive. Great sound.

I purchased one of these PCs without the monitor for a Home Theater PC.

I've been using a slimline Gateway for a HTPC for years, but it really hits a wall when it comes to expandability.

This Dell comes with a 1TB hard drive, and has room for another right next to it. It has a total of two 3.5" hard drive bays, two 5.25" optical drive bays, and one 3.5" floppy drive bay. The floppy drive bay is occupied by the front usb ports/media card reader, however, an extra hard drive could easily be added in addition to those. There are 4 SATA (revision 2.0) ports on the motherboard for adding drives, and 4 SATA power connectors to match.

The LGA 1155 socket used for the processor is a strong point for upgrades. Not only does it fit the current Intel i7-2700k (3.5 GHz quad core) processor, but it will also be compatible with the upcoming Intel Ivy Bridge series processors.

Unfortunately, there is no built in support for either USB 3.0, or SATA revision 3.0. However, these can be added via one of the two available PCI-Express x 1 slots (3 slots total, one is occupied by the wireless adapter. There is also one PCI-Express x 16 slot available to add a graphics card.

The wireless adapter works better than any other I've used. Most wireless adapters seem to freeze up, or drop the connection frequently, but this one has worked flawlessly so far.

The processor in this thing is great. It speeds through whatever you throw at it. Blu Ray encoding (which is usually an overnight task) happens in 2-4 hours (depending on length and quality). It never gets bogged down.

On mine, I've added a 2nd hard drive (2TB), replaced the DVD drive with a Samsung Blu Ray drive (for ripping Blu Rays), and added a Samsung 830 series SSD (in the second optical drive bay). I also added a AMD Radeon HD 6670 graphics card and a SATA 3.0 controller card.

Mine now gets an overall score of 7.1 on the Windows Experience Index (limited by the graphics). I believe it had a 5.9 when I got it, which was limited by the original hard drive (Seagate 7200 RPM 1 TB drive).

The one hiccup I ran into with this PC was adding a drive to the second optical drive bay. There is a special screw/peg that is used on the right side of the original DVD drive to hold that side of the drive in place. This screw/peg is needed to add additional drives to the second optical drive bay, or the floppy drive bay. I contacted Dell support to get a couple of these, and they only offer them as part of upgrade packages. They could have been nice, and just sent me a couple, or even charged me $10 for them, but instead, they flat out refused unless I bought an upgrade package, including a drive. I managed to use a screw I found in place of it, but it was a little irritating.

Also, if you have any intention of adding a floppy drive... the bay is there, but it's obviously not intended to be used. You'll have to modify the PCs front plastic panel to remove the USB ports/card reader, and then you'll be able to put your floppy drive in. The finished product should look fine (has a door that covers it and should be able to be left intact), but you'll have to cut a little plastic.

    Pros
    *Fast processor
    *Easily expandable
*Will have a long usable life (with or without upgrades)
    *Great wireless
*Fast hard drive (for a traditional hard drive)
    *Good built in graphics
*Windows 7 is great (XP users wake up and smell the coffee! This isn't Vista)

    Cons
    *Hard drive is LOUD
*No USB 3.0 or SATA 3.0
*Much bigger than small form factor PCs (may be difficult to fit in your entertainment center)

This is a great computer when the money is right!

After a lot of consideration, I bought this desktop. It is fast and reliable. The oversize monitor included with the overall package has been super, it allows me to sometimes had 3 separate entities on the screen for easy reference without being overcrowded. The price was right too...

So many people go on and on about how bad Dell is, and quite frankly, I would generally agree. A decent deal came up nearly a year ago and I took a gamble with the Inspirion 620. I am shocked at how great this computer has been. I didn't want to write a review until a year later so that I would give it a chance to fail and it hasn't. I don't even have paid virus protection on my computer (I have only been using Microsoft Essentials).

The only negative that I will report (and this not necessarily a design flaw per se) is that when I wanted to install a graphics card for gaming, it wouldn't take anything very high up. It didn't work at all. There is problems with the bios. But if you don't care about high-end gaming, it is a fantasic computer.

So far so good, I purchased this pc (tower, mouse and keyboard only) from a different retailer and I have to say that there are no complaints.

Right out of the box the computer recognized an led monitor I had bought separately and the 1st boot was very quick.

The 1st time setup for windows 7 home premium 64bit went flawless, the i5 cpu definitely shows its responsiveness and I am very impressed with the speed this chip producess.

The 1tb hdd at 7200rpm definitely makes data transfer pretty easy and quick, If you do not have one of these already and are experiencing slow copying and pasting and deleting of files and folders I would definitely recommend upgrading to one of these hdds either from WD
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive Bulk/OEM - WD1002FAEX  or from seagate  Seagate Barracuda 7200 1 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST1000DM003 .

My overall experience has been great so far, I may update my review if I run into problems or if I discover something that makes my experience on this pc better.
