I didn't think monitors could get much better after having a 1080P LED-LCD monitor for several years, but after watching my friend play games on this thing, I had to buy one for myself. I never realized how much I hated page tearing in games until I had my eyes opened to the incredible world of G-Sync (and 144hz!). Literally when I take my computer to my mom's house sometimes and hook it up to the LCD TV, the page tearing is unbelievable. It seriously feels like going from color back to monochrome. Every PC gamer should be asking for this for their birthday or saving their money. If there was a spot for a 6th star, I'd throw that up there too.

The build quality of this specific monitor is very sturdy and the base gives you tons of freedom for rotation / height adjustment. I also love the very narrow bezel (border between the screen edge and monitor edge)

One final note, it didn't seem to want to wake up after going to sleep unless I power cycled it. Any other monitor you can just move the keyboard / mouse. This was very quickly fixed by turning off the "power saving" to off. It still goes off when the computer goes to sleep / shuts down and doesn't seem to be using any power but I haven't verified that. My friend has the same exact monitor and had the same issue on a different computer (running windows 10).

My biggest concern when buying a 1440p gaming monitor was the backlight bleed of the monitor. After buying this monitor and a few months of use it worked very well! However as of recently this monitor has has started to show a little black light bleeding. Most of it has been along the bottom of the monitor but recently I've had an annoying circle of bleed coming from the bottom right. If I didn't have this problem I would give this monitor a 5/5 but this problem is very prominent and annoying.

I've tried every monitor out there to go with my zotac 980ti amp extreme. I've seriously returned 12 different monitors some pricier models closer to $1000 and at the end of the day I prefer the price performance (<$500 g sync 144fps 1440p) of this monitor over the competition. Backlight bleed is very minimal on the bottom but barely noticeable unless you're really focusing on it. Other were much worse.. I had 2 different acer and Asus panels with damaged pixels and unforgivable backlight bleeding.

Hopefully I save you some time and money. The last thing I'll say is if you have unlimited cash you may want to pass up this model for 4K g sync setup. Happy shopping!

You get exactly what you think you will here. Dell quality and warranty, 1440p, 144Hz, and G-Sync. Oh, and understated styling -thank you DELL for not making this gaming monitor look like a joke! Checks all the boxes for me, no dead pixels, or ghosting, or input lag. This gaming monitor has good colors and contrast looking straight on, and just like any TN panel you see some (not terrible) color shift and contrast loss when you view from the side or above/below. 144Hz is SO AWESOME in fast-paced games. I play some Overwatch (at 144fps!) and it truly does give you a competitive advantage to be able to catch those little tells right as an opponent uses a special or ultimate. Of course you have to be able to react just as fast so actually being better is still on you. :)

Zero dead pixels, barely any backlight bleed. I think I lucked out and received a review worthy display. The color is great for a TN panel and doesn't change much on the top/bottom of the screen.

Goes great with the Dell UltraSharp U2414H 23.8" 1080p IPS as a second monitor. They're practically the same housing and line up really well. The color on the 8 bit TN of the S2417 is almost identical to the 6+2 bit IPS on the U2414H.

I can move a picture between the two monitors and don't really notice much of a color difference.

Asus and Acer both have similar monitors in the $700-$800+ price range. Some of them are IPS. I considered those, but they all had
many poor reviews, one star reviews, with some people stating they were on their 3rd or 5th monitor after returning them time and again. I couldn't see paying $800 for poor or iffy quality. Many people stated this monitor had better build quality.

I went from a 25" IPS 1440 monitor to this one (mostly for the 144 refresh and gsync). Obviously the IPS was brighter, had deeper darks, and brighter colors, but this monitor actually held up pretty well in comparison. I'm satisfied with the picture. It's better than my last TN panel, which suffered from flat colors, poor viewing angles, and couldn't handle any glare. The glare coating on this is noticeable, but not too overbearing. It depends on your preferences. The build quality seems good, and the stand is fantastic. Very heavy, durable, with lots of adjustment options (looks good too). I had no dead pixels on mine, and I don't have much noticeable light bleed or uneven lightning or anything like that (one benefit of TN over IPS, as my IPS had very noticeable light bleed in some areas).

A few notes about gsync. I was playing Fallout 4, and still noticed tearing and stuttering, so I wasn't sure if gsync was working. Turns out, to turn off vsync in Fallout 4, you need to change a line in the .ini file. Once I did that, gsync became very very evident. You can still tell when the frames start to drop down in the 30s or 40s (mostly because in Fallout 4, you'll be at 120 FPS once second, then 40 in the next), but you don't get any of the tearing or other problems you'll see when you have vsync enabled. Well worth the money. It lets you turn on a lot of options that you'd normally have to turn off, just to maintain at least 60 FPS. In Witcher 3 (I'm running at gtx 970), I went into the biggest city I could find, and started turning on options like hairworks, AA, etc. My framerate started averaging into the 40s and low 50s, but it still looked very smooth and playable. Also, one note about this monitor: it has a "Deep Sleep" setting that results in the monitor not waking up from sleep or power saving (at least if you are using display port, not sure about hdmi). If that setting is enabled, you have to turn the power button on and off after power saving to get the monitor to come back. If you disable it, just moving your mouse or tapping the keyboard will bring the monitor back up.

My only niggle about the monitor is when I'm scrolling on websites, I notice a "white shadow" or outline that appears under or above text for a split second when scrolling. I've got no idea what this is, but my research seems to indicate it has something to do with Dell's overdrive settings and it may be "overshoot". I don't know how to fix it, but if you do, let me know! It's not game-breaking, but a slight annoyance.

Absolutely awesome gaming display!
Pros: 144hz frequency and G-Sync make every game I have tested so far buttery smooth with the benefits of V-sync, minus the latency that usually occurs with V-sync and even more amazing, when a game drops below 60hz, there is no stutter that usually occurs with every game that dips below 60. It smooths out the images being rendered so even if a game dips to 45, you still get an amazingly smooth experience
Solid build, tiny bezel that makes games more immersive (Bezels distract me for some reason)
Beautiful image quality AFTER you make adjustments (Adjustment values will be provided at the end)
Worth the 600 dollar price tag!

Cons: Whites are still slightly stronger than blacks (A result of TN technology)

Note: To ensure G-sync is enabled in every game, disable V-sync in every game's settings menu. Some games might not have the option so do a little research for those :)

Adjustments: Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, go to the Display drop menu on the left, go to "Adjust Desktop Color Settings", Change option 2 gamma to +0.70, Change Option 3 Digital Vibrance to + 60%

Aamazing monitor.

The Good:
144hz
great sharpness and colors
g-sync actually looks like butter and umlb is even better
PWM-free is so easy on the eyes.
g-sync hardware is way better than typical monitor

The Bad:
ULMB makes the display dim, (but is IS tolerable in a room without sunlight.)
24" is too small to make excellent headshots for my poor eyesight.

I want to start off by saying this monitor is a great monitor and looks great. I didn't have any dead pixels and the BLB is not that bad in my opinion. I've attached a pic and a video and the pic does look worse than in person, but the video does it more justice. I doesn't distract or affect me when watching movies or playing any games. The monitor can be adjusted vertically, rotated horizontally, tilted and the screen can be rotated into portrait.

However I purchased this through a 3rd party vendor that goes by BESTPTV and fulfilled by Amazon. After receiving the monitor and setting it up I registered it online with Dell on or about June 1st. Today I received an email stating that the service tag ownership transfer was denied. I called them right away, checked my account and noticed the monitor wasn't under my product list on my account. I went ahead and added the monitor with the service tag and noticed the warranty date was off by 3 1/2 months. Warranty stated it was active from 2/16/16 when I had purchased it on 5/28/16. After spending an 1 1/2(mostly on hold) on the phone with Dell and getting disconnected and again on the phone for another 1 1/2(mostly on hold) and getting disconnected again, I called back for the 3rd time and the agent this time only after about 10 mins told me this monitor was registered to another user and was a refurbished monitor and can't help me as the info I provided didn't match what they had on file. Mind you none of the other agents told me this the entire time I was on the phone with them. The agent advised me to contact Amazon and to discuss this matter with them. I want to point out that the item was labeled as new and it also shows that on my invoice as well. Amazon was very good at helping me resolve this issue and didn't even hesitate to initiate a return for me. Even though this monitor is great, I'm returning it because I can't register this monitor under my name. I have now made another purchase for the same item and hopefully I won't run into the same problem. I did decide to go with another 3rd party vendor and fulfilled by Amazon, as I save about $50 in tax. I'll update when I get the new monitor. Hopefully no one else has this problem.

UPDATE: 6/18/16 - I received the 2nd monitor today and the 1st thing I did was contact Dell. I gave the agent the service tag and they told me that it was registered under another name again. They will not help or talk to me unless I get the service tag transferred to my name. I don't want to transfer nothing if the monitor is a used or refurbished monitor. When I tried to register it online using the service tag, it said that the warranty started on 4/4/16. Since customer support is closed on the weekends I have to wait to call them on Monday. I also noticed that there are 2 shipping labels on the actual box the monitor came in. The 1st label is from Fedex and that was covered by another one from UPS. The Fedex label's tracking number shows it going from Mount Juliet, TN to Hudson, NH, the address looks to be a self storage place. Then the UPS label shows it going from a residence address in Knoxville, TN to Amazon in Lebanon, TN, but the tracking however shows it going from Nashua, NH to Lebanon, TN and being box 22 of 30. Now the monitor was registered on 4/4/16 by whomever and the UPS label shows the package being processed and ready on 4/7/16. Seems like a customer registered it and wasn't happy and then returned it, but then there are 30 packages total? Seems like Dell is doing something or something happened somewhere along the way. Something is fishy here and I don't know who is playing these games, but this is really bad business practice. Either Dell is just refurbishing these monitors and selling them as new or the vendors are knowingly doing this or not knowingly doing it. All I know is that a new item shouldn't be already registered and require me to transfer the warranty to my name. I'll be calling Amazon as soon as I contact Dell on Monday to find out what the hell is going on. At this point I don't feel like I can trust this, as I think Dell is either doing something bad or the vendors are. The 2nd monitor is from a completely different vendor than the 1st one. Ugh, I'm so frustrated right now.

The only other problem I'm having is trying to get the monitor at a resolution of 2560x1440 using the HDMI connection. My video card has two DVI-D dual link connections and one HDMI-mini. I've tried both but my system only lets me set the monitor to 1920x1080 as the highest setting. I don't know if this is an issue with the cable or what, but this has been frustrating for me. My video cards are capable of providing a max resolution of 2560x1600. I've also tried a cable with HDMI on one end and HDMI-mini on the other. I've tried an HDMI cable to an HDMI-DVI-D dual link adapter as well and that won't work. I've even tried a DVI-D dual link to display port adapter and that won't work either. Supposedly the only way to get the DP adapter to work is to have an active adapter and those cost over $120. The DP works at max resolution if I connect it to the DP on my motherboard but the games I'm playing won't support the on board graphics, hence needing a 3rd party graphics card. I have an EVGA GTX 980 Ti Classified, but I haven't installed it yet and I'm sure I'll have no problems since it has a DP connection. Just thought I'd let everyone know what has been happening with my current setup. I can't wait to get my new rig going as I still have yet to experience gaming in 2K.

UPDATE: 6/16/16 - After further research, the reason I've come up with as to why I can't achieve the max resolution with HDMI is because there isn't a simple cheap way to convert from an HDMI to HDMI-mini and keeping 60hz. I tried to change the settings from 60hz down to 24 or 30hz to match the HDMI-mini at 30hz, but there isn't a setting that low available. I basically need a cable with HDMI on one end and HDMI-mini on the other which support 4K resolutions at 60hz, I have yet to find one. The same goes for any adapter unless its an active adapter. If I did just have a regular HDMI connection on my video card then I would imagine this isn't a problem. Unless there's some kind of cheap solution out there then I'm stuck at 1080 until I swap out my video card, which I then can use the DP instead.

Some other users have been complaining about the view angles being horrible. I don't know about you but when I'm gaming, I'm usually right in front of my monitor and not sitting off to the side. So I don't see what the problem is. Some have stated that it's not HDCP compliant but I can say it is using HDMI, can't confirm using the DP. I can watch Netflix on it no problem. I've attached an image from my Nvidia control panel. Also this monitor supposedly works with Nvidia 3D Vision, but I can't confirm this, only what I have found online. Good Luck!

As many other reviewers have noted, this monitor needs to be calibrated. At default, colors are muted and the gamma is particularly low, but after calibration, it performs much better.

The major problem I've had with this monitor is its severe banding, especially noticeable in darker colors. Out of the box the banding is mild, but the gamma calibrations you need to do really brings it out. It's bad enough that I choose to play games with great visuals (Witcher 3) on my 60 Hz IPS panel. For fast paced shooters, though, the 144 Hz is worth having to deal with ugly banding.
