Those are my settings, you can use that as base and tune to your liking, but I'm very satisfied with the colors. Looks really close to my Samsung which I use to edit photos and videos. Let me know your experience with the settings and with the monitor itself!
-Indisputably excellent price for a monitor of the resolution and features (165 Hz OC, 1440p, G-Sync). As mentioned by other reviewers, the colors may appear washed out at first, but they can really pop with only a couple minutes of tinkering.
-Included cable was fully functional and supported 165 Hz with no issues.
-Tangible issues with the response time and inverse ghosting. Skip to the end if the specific details aren't important to you.
The monitor has two settings for Response Time (under submenu "Display") accessible via the built-in menu through the bottom right buttons. The settings are Fast and Normal. The specs of the monitor boast 1 ms response time. I have, in no situation, been able to reproduce a 1 ms response time, regardless of game, program, or setting. The lowest response time I have been able to achieve, set at 165 Hz, Fast Response Time, and unlimited in-game rendering rate (which otherwise can render at 240+ Hz stable uncapped), was 3 ms.
Now, to be honest, a 2 ms discrepancy isn't bad. However, there are a multitude of other minor issues that cascade from this. First, the "Fast" Response Time setting introduces very noticeable "inverse ghosting", which is essentially color overcompensation on moving objects. Practically, any dark object moving across a light background will streak a very noticeable trail of whatever is the opposite of the object's color. This became very noticeable to me in games with high contrast. The monitor boasts "no ghosting", which is true, but this setting introduces the exact opposite issue: very noticeable "inverse ghosting".
To circumvent this issue, I changed the "Fast" Response Time setting to "Normal". This had two effects: it removed the inverse ghosting issue completely. However, it also increased the Response Time to 7 ms from 3 ms. So, I had to choose: either 2 ms slower response than advertised and visual issues, or 6 ms slower response than advertised with clean visuals.
To someone who doesn't require absolutely exceptional response times for a monitor, this means absolutely nothing. However, if you're looking for a monitor with a very high OC framerate cap and G-Sync for the purpose of quick-paced games such as FPS's or overkill rhythm games, a 7 ms increase in input lag is just enough to be felt by the hand to be minutely disorienting, even with a powerful system and G-Sync enabled.
In summary: the Response Time is slower than advertised, at either 3 ms with noticeable visual issues or 7 ms without. If those 7 ms matter to you (which, to a grand majority of people, rationally will not), I believe other cheaper, ~$300 144 Hz monitors with true 1 ms or less response times (e.g. ASUS VG278HV) would be better suited for your purposes, as the 7 ms response time (at least in my opinion) feels tangibly worse and less responsive than not having G-Sync in the first place, though G-Sync makes the visuals themselves more attractive.
On the other hand, if you just want to watch a beautiful monitor run something visually pleasing at 165 Hz stable with no screen tearing, or if you want to play non-millisecond sensitive games with beautiful visuals, I can think of no better alternative at anywhere near this price range.
I found a calibration guide on the internet to improve the colors from the factory.

Or for a more vibrant look just go with "standard."
*Also, download the latest driver for this monitor on Dell's website and disable deep sleep in monitor menu.
And you're welcome :)

There is still an issue when monitor gets out of standby (still looking to sort it) because it looses the dithering (windows calibration takes over). For this I just enabled screen standby to 2 hours so there is less chance to get it and in case it happens you can just reboot and it's fine again.
I just ended up wanting to enjoy my game with a deeper colour gamut and a larger screen, 300 dollars extra for those features but it is an investment. If you're not looking to spend more money on a monitor and 500 dollars is the most you can go, you can't go wrong with this panel. Very fast response times and a massive difference from 60fps, after 144fps I cannot see myself going back to it, it's a whole new world especially with 1440p.
Hard to tell in the picture because it doesn't capture the black well, but you can see the lighter tone on the bottom of the screen, which is very visible when you're watching or playing in a dark environment.
- contrasto impostato a 60 (luminosità a piacere, in base all'illuminamento della stanza)
Potrei andare avanti fino all infinito...
It gets full points for style. It's professional and not gimmicky like other gaming monitors I've seen. It looks very well made and would fit great in a home or office setting. It came completely mint. I only notice the slightest amount of bleed around the edges (particularly the bottom) but it's so minuscule that unless I'm looking really hard for it there's no way I would even notice it. It looks much better than "average" Asus monitors I've seen in terms of overall uniformity.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn't feel like they absolutely need an IPS panel for gaming.
Next time I would probably save up for a higher quality panel, but in a pinch, this is a reasonable choice with good value for it's niche.
istg that i heard so many people say that it feels like an IPS, although it's not even close to that, I can say the quality is Amazing. Viewing Angles are absolutely crazy good, unless you are seriously nitpicky, the viewing angle get worse when looking at it from the bottom.
As for picture quality, not the greatest. For one, It's Matte so it's already kinda distorted. There are some noticable Gamma issues, but haven't seen any color banding issues as much as Others.
OSD seems fairly Dell-isque and the design and stand is absolutely amazing.
Will update when i get my PC sorted out.
Update 1 : Thought of doing a dead pixel and guess what, There's one on the top left.
Will be returning shortly.
Update 2 : Tried out the monitor in it's 144hz and 165hz glory and must say it's fantastic. I got a samsung C27HG70 and even though there's a clear difference. I wont lie minus the movies there isn't much difference between the two. Everyday usage should be fine and gaming looks great too. I'm returning this still cause i kinda prefer image quality so VA panel had to be my choice.
Cons: Screen issues as seen in pictures
Monitor needs a reset sometimes
DETAIL ABOUT PICTURES: A vertical portion near the middle of my screen gets cropped out and that cropoed image goes to the left side of the monitor. In the picture you can see that part of my mice is missing. Never experienced this before in any other monitor ive ever owned.
Downloading and installing drivers:
1) Download the Dell S2417DG monitor drivers directly from the dell website.
2) Select where to extract the installation. I left it as the default directory, we will be deleting this folder after the installation is finished: “C:\Dell\Drivers\3T4DW”
3) Navigate to the extracted directory (i.e. “C:\Dell\Drivers\3T4DW”)
4) Run the Dell Monitor Driver Installer program and (optionally) delete the Dell folder when finished.
5) Within the monitor’s menu, scroll down to display, and set overclock to enable and overclock refresh rate to 165. Using the monitor buttons, select Yes and then hit enter.
6) Right-click on desktop, click display settings, scroll down and select advanced display settings, click Display adapter properties for Display 1 (or whatever number it is if you have more than one monitor), click on the monitor tab, ensure screen refresh rate is set to 165 Hz and hit apply.
7) Right-click on desktop, click NVIDIA Control Panel, click “Set up G-SYNC”, click Enable G-Sync, and I chose to enable for full screen mode.
Improving monitor colour:
8) Within the monitor’s menu, set the monitor brightness to 78 and monitor contrast to 68.
9) Within the monitor’s menu, scroll down to Color, set Preset Modes to Custom Color, and hit enter. Set Red to 96%, Green to 99%, and leave Blue at 100%.
10) Within the monitor’s menu, scroll down to Others and set Power Saving to Off. This monitor is known to have some issues when going into Power Saving mode. Not a big deal but can be avoided by this simple step.
11) Back in the NVIDIA Control Panel, click on “Adjust desktop color settings”, select “Use NVIDIA settings” and change Gamma to 0.6. Then scroll down and set Digital vibrance to 70%.
Congratulations, you now have a 1440p 165 Hz TN panel with colour very comparable to an IPS display! These settings are just what I found to personally improve the overall experience of my monitor and come entirely from research online. Enjoy your purchase!
