I was debating about picking this up for my daughter for college. She found it after some serious searching and research and to be honest I was flat-out amazed. I'm pretty good at hunting for electronics, but a laptop with a Ryzen 2700u, 32GB of ram, and a 1TB SSD for under a grand seemed just insane. Laptops with a half the ram and SSDs cost at least $500 more, figured it was a mis-pricing but also figured it if was Amazon would be good about returns since it wouldn't be what we ordered and they've always been wonderful about such things and if it was real it was the find of the bloody lifetime for her.
Came today, read the service label on the box since my daughter wasn't home and I knew she wanted to be the first one to start it and checked it on Dell's site and sure enough it was listed as a 12GB with a 256GB SSD. Figured sad times, but it's what we were sort of expecting.
Then she opened it up and got it all set up, and windows was reporting 32GB of physically installed ram and a bloody 1TB SSD was showing up in file manager! Opened up system info and it was the same story on the memory, 32GB of actual ram in there. Disk management showed a 1TB SSD.
Then she installed Firefox and a few other apps, then Minecraft since her and a friend were reminiscing about it. She had 13 tabs open in Firefox, a few apps running, she hasn't cleaned any bloatware out of it, and she was running Minecraft like butter and could freely bounce between stuff.
I am more than impressed, I am outright stunned. The Ryzen 2700u is a great little CPU from all reviews and I have fallen in love with my Ryzen 5 1600 and love the whole architecture. The Radeon Vega 10 integrated graphics are more impressive than I though integrated graphics would ever get, but it's still not really a gamer i don't think.
Gonna hopefully find out tomorrow if I get a chance to play with it. Want to go into the bios and poke around and make sure of what the what is, but it is checking out to be legit!
I don't know how, but this laptop really is what it says it is. I am amazed and delighted!
