Top customer reviews
- Small, lightweight enough for me to not notice its weight in my backpack.
- Good screen! I haven't had an issue with viewing angle, though maybe that's because I never look at the screen from an angle.
- Touchscreen is responsive
- Very fast (except for one exception in cons section), doesn't have an issue browsing the web. Holds its own even having multiple applications open and switching between them.
- Win10: leagues ahead of 8.1 (though it isn't hard to beat Windows 8).
- Sturdy! The hinges seem solid, there's just enough weight to make it feel more high quality. It definitely will not break in my backpack while walking around campus.
- I am a computer science student, so I do all of my programming/compiling on this machine. Visual Studio does NOT run as quickly as I'd like it to. A very small homework program takes a solid 30-40 seconds to compile and run. When doing little debugs here and there it wastes a lot of time and it's really my biggest complaint. It's something to consider if you're using this for programming.
- Keyboard, while decent, does bend a bit in the middle. I've also noticed a little bend while holding it in the corner while open.
- Little quirks here and there, the touchscreen doesn't seem to work after awaking the screen from idle (a restart fixes it), not a huge issue for me because I don't use the touchscreen very much. Still a few Windows 10 quirks.
- Touchpad disables every now and then because the laptop thinks it is in "tablet mode" when it has been in laptop mode for a few hours. Flipping the computer around fixes it.
All in all, despite a few quirks, it does its job. Very inexpensive university laptop that does its job well enough. Happy with the purchase and I can see this thing lasting a few years until I graduate.
After using this laptop sparingly for just one day, there seems to be a problem with the screen and the laptop itself. First - the laptop. Every time I picked it up, I could hear a faint rattling sound that seemed to be a loose piece (or two) inside the laptop. The laptop itself seemed to be in good shape when I picked it up from my front door, but it seems as though something may have been damaged during the shipping process. Secondly, the screen was covered in colored vertical lines every time the laptop booted up. I have lowered the rating from three stars to two mainly because I bought the same laptop for my brother through another seller and that one has had no problems so far.
These problems may be just the rare occurrence, but I definitely am not willing to take a third chance and will be returning this device.
I wanted a decent laptop that I could use at home just to surf the interweb. The 2-in-1 feature makes it even nice to lay in bed and use it as a tablet.
This is super easy to upgrade if you want. I swapped in a SSD drive, 8GB of RAM, and a dual band wireless + bluetooth card. I've got less than $500 in this laptop and it runs as well as my $3,000 work Latitude. I'm getting anywhere between 5-6 hours of battery time. There is zero heat produced from this machine.
The only thing I wish it had was a back lighted keyboard.
If you do swap hard drives to a SSD, you are going to be better off cloning the drive in the laptop instead of installing Windows 10 fresh. The touch pad driver on Dell's website do not work.
The touchpad cursor frequently stops working, and I have to reboot to get it back.
There are workarounds, but I find myself awfully frustrated for a machine that's only 6 months old.
I have spent HOURS on the phone with dell customer support. We have updated drivers and bios, tried different operating systems. I even sent it to Dell's service center in Texas to have the 'Main Logic Board Replaced' but when it was returned the logic board was the same (I marked it before I sent it in) and the problem persisted.
Neither Dell, or Amazon will let me return it at this point so I am stuck with a laptop that is worthless.
