My macro that I have been using on many computers since it was written in 1998, and with which I had never experienced a slowdown like this, slowed to a snail pace and the top of the computer was burning hot!!! I called Dell and they talked me into buying a complete service to take care of problems... it was close to $500 for software and hardware support!!! A month later, I called and explained my problem and they sent a man out to replace the processor and the heat sink (not sure why they needed to replace a pretty much non-mechanical piece of metal but they seemed to think it was important...). That did not fix the problem. They checked on all of my software remotely and said everything was working properly. The service would call every month of so and ask if I was still having problems and, when I would say yes, they would come up with some other reason (the macro was written for a 32 bit machine and it needed to be rewritten for 64 bit... I rewrote it... only marginal improvement, I was running too many programs at once, which I wasn't... they even removed some, including their service (another of their techs put it back on!!!)...Anyway, bottom line is I am now in July of 2014, and they finally are telling me that the machine is working as it should and there is nothing that they can do. When I ask if it is supposed to overheat, they say of course not. When I tell them that it is overheating they repeat that there is nothing wrong... I have given up except to write this warning: beware of Dell!!! I really had never had problems with them before but I had never had a problem with any of their machines before either... looks like when everything hits the fan, they drop the ball big time... I'm seriously thinking of Apple now for the first time in my life (got my first computer in 1983 and first pc in 1990)...
