I'm giving this 4 stars for the moment because it appears to work. That said, I'm not sure this is a Dell battery. The quality of the plastic and fit and finish is noticably worse than the battery that came with my computer. It very much reminds me of one of those "Apple" chargers that you get off ebay. It might say Apple but you know the makers of iPods had nothing to do with it. Given the price I guess it's OK if it lasts more than a year. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if Dell didn't have a hand in the making of this battery.

EDIT:
It's going back. The other day I unplugged my computer and it was as if the battery was already dead. Plug it back in, reboot and next thing you know the battery says it was full. The fuel gauging circuit in this battery isn't working correctly which makes me think this was never a Dell battery, just a knock off that went as far as putting fake Dell stickers on the battery. Shame on someone for selling counterfeit products on Amazon.

First of all, make sure you understand that this is NOT a high capacity battery. It is a 6 cell and not a 9 cell. That was fine with me for the price, but the battery did not last. I purchased this in September 2012 and my Dell precision M4500 is already telling me it is near the end of its life. It will only last a few minutes without being plugged in. I have only used it occasionally, so it is not like I wore it out quickly by overuse. I have purchased Dell batteries from Amazon before and been pleased, but I had a poor experience with this one.

Six months ago I purchased this battery for my laptop due to my original battery needing to be replaced. I ordered this battery with doubts, but decided to roll the dice. Below is an honest review about the product:

-The battery is, or at least appears to be, a 100% genuine battery from Dell. I had no issues with my laptop recognizing the battery as being a Dell product. This was my biggest concern.

-The battery was, and is currently, advertised as being in "NEW" condition. This is false. A new product is something that has never been used and is still in original packaging. This battery was clearly in "Like NEW" or "USED" condition when I got it, it had clearly been used to some extent. Some tell tale signs of this status includes: not showing up in Dell packaging, 4 SKU stickers that were placed on the battery in random places, a corner on the battery test button was starting to come off of the battery, and some light scratches on the bottom of the battery. The SKU stickers were the biggest tell tale of the battery's used condition since the stickers were placed in random locations on the battery. These locations covered up writing on the battery including Dell's warning label (something I'm sure Dell's lawyers would have a fit over if Dell was the one responsible for placement of those stickers). Additionally, the placement of the stickers were clearly done by a human being because the stickers were not placed straight with the lines of the battery; a company like Dell that makes tons of these batteries would have a machine put stickers in the same location, thousands of times, straight on the battery. When comparing my original battery to this replacement battery it was clear that I received a used battery and something not directly from Dell.

This battery arrived today. Looks perfectly fine, and may perform well. I have not installed it yet. But based on the reviews that said this was an actual Dell product, I was expecting that to be true. The unit I got today, from "laptop battery doctor" was not a Dell product.

This product arrived from "Laptop Battery Doctor." Stickers said Dell, but didn't quite look like the Dell stickers on other Dell products I own. That left me a bit suspicious. It came charged, but I could not get it to charge up again as the battery level went down. Also, the little button and LEDs that are supposed to indicate charge level do not work. I was able to send it back just fine and get a full refund. I honestly don't care if my battery is a quality third party product or from Dell, just don't lie about where it is from, and work on the quality.

I purchased this battery in Nov 2013, but it never held a consistent charge (would charge fully, then only up to 50%, then only up to 30%, then 90%, etc.). Finally, in Jan 2014, it died completely. What a complete waste of money. Like other reviewers, I also suspect this is a bootleg product, despite bearing the Dell logo (on mine, the word "purchase" is misspelled at "putchase"; would that ever fly on an official product?).

I hooked it up to my computer and it wouldn't charge. The company said they would give me a return sticker to replace it but they never sent it. Waste of $40.

The description for this battery did not specify that it was a REFURBISHED battery, but that's what it is. Also, although it WAS compatible with my Dell Latitude E6510, the battery life decreased rapidly until after only 9 months I started getting the error message: "Your battery is able to charge normally. However it is reaching the end of its usable life"
