This computer is amazing, probably the best laptop I've ever had, and I've used gaming laptops to use for graphics programs (Photoshop, unreal, zBrush, etc..). I run Maya and Photoshop at the same time... and Netflix... Connected to my Cintiq easily. Great for what I needed.
There's no doubt that this is a beast of a laptop but there are several annoying problems that keep this from being a 5-star laptop.
BAD STUFF: - Screen flickers every few seconds at the lowest brightness settings. This is annoying and simply unacceptable for a top-of-the-line laptop in this price range. - The keyboard back light only stays lit for 10 seconds and there is NO WAY to adjust this. - Keyboard travel is a bit shallow for my liking. (My $400 Dell Chromebook 13's keyboard kicks this keyboard's butt at a third of the price!) - Only 2 USB ports?!?!
GOOD STUFF: Now some positives because everyone hates an all negative review - I know from experience!
- The glass touch pad is simply legendary. It's amazing. It's absolutely the best laptop mouse I've ever used. I don't see how a touch pad can get better than this. This ALONE makes this laptop worth consideration. - The M1000M is a beast of a video card! It plays Skyrim on ultra and I'm happy with that. - The AC adapter is medium sized and NOT the huge brick lunker I'm used to from Dell precision laptops - The matte IPS screen is fantastic with great viewing angles. There IS LIGHT BLEED in the bottom of the screen which sucks of course. - It's quiet when I'm working on web-based applications. I hardly ever hear the fan unless I'm pushing it hard. - Battery life is good. I get about 6 to 7 hours of straight use. - I LOVE the size and weight. It fits in the frame of a normal 14 inch laptop and weighs about the same! Incredible!
I recommend this laptop with some trepidation. This is supposed to be an elite level laptop but the keyboard is somewhat lacking in my opinion. The keyboard on my Dell Chromebook 13 is WAY better and it costs 3 times less, that's not right. If, however, you want the best windows laptop you can possibly buy, the M5510 should be at the top of your list.
