So I originally bought this receiver to work with my Logitech Harmony 1000 remote and guess what, works perfectly. Drivers installed automatically with Windows 7 64-bit Pro. I built an HTPC to run XBMC and other things. The receiver has turned my Logitech Harmony 1000 the only remote I need to control every aspect of my PC. I can even move the mouse. The receiver acts like a MCE receiver and also a Windows IR Keyboard and Mouse receiver.
I bought this device specifically because I have a Harmony Remote. I wanted a simple solution to control Windows Media Center on my newly built HTPC. It could not have been more simple. I hooked up this device through a spare USB port and added a Dell Media PC to my Harmony Remote menu. Voila! Works like a charm. I made one small change; I mapped my dedicated 'Exit' key on my remote to be the 'Back' command for WMC. I could not be happier. For the sake of clarity, I did not buy a Dell specific PC. I just used that configuration to program my Harmony.
Used in my MythTV Ubuntu (Mythbuntu) system. Everything was plug and play. Couldn't be happier. I use a Logitech harmony programmable remote control. I was even able to hide the receiver below my flat screen which is mounted on the wall. I can't see this unit but the clear plastic bezel on the TV reflects the IR signal down to the IR receiver which is pointing straight up along the wall behind my other A/V equipment. That shows the pickup is really great on this unit.
This item works flawlessly in Windows 7 Media Center with a Harmony 700 remote. Although the price is a little high for an IR receiver. It is still worth the money. It just works! No hassle.
I added device, "Windows Media Center" in Harmony software. Harmony remote was controlling Media Center right away.
I added this to my HTPC and it works great. If you are using a logitech Harmony remote with it I'll save you some time in the forums. Add the device as a "media center pc", "Microsoft", and for model number enter "windows media center". That's all!
I have used this IR receiver in XBMC and Boxee on Windows and Linux and MythTV in Linux. It works great, has a very wide angle of reception and seems very responsive. Didn't need to do anything special to get it working in either Windows or Linux.
This allowed me to control a Media Center computer in the next room while watching the TV in the living room. I just passed the wire through a heating duct that connected the two rooms.
