After 48 hours of good use of the monitor, I'd say that gaming on the monitor is fantastic. The frame rates are butter smooth and the colors really pop. I don't notice any drawbacks that people associate with TN panels at all. If all I did was game on my computer, I would love this monitor and 100% keep it.
However, I only game on my computer about 30% of the time. I work from home 2 days a week, so approximately 70% of my time in front of the screen is spent browsing, word processing, using spreadsheets, coding, or editing pictures. In those situations I can't help but notice the washed out colors of the icons on the bottom of the screen, or the fact that anything with a white background (like web browsing or word processing) is almost orange at the top of the screen close to blue at the bottom. Dragging images around the screen, while keeping my head still, I see them become more or less saturated, warmer or cooler, depending on the location.
I think the TN panel is just too large for good screen-wide color when doing productivity tasks... or I need to be able to sit 10 feet back from it. Unfortunately I'm returning the monitor and going to have to drop the extra $200+ for an AHVA (IPS-like) panel.
The monitor came with no dead pixels and everything working right out of the box. You need to adjust the colors and there are some good suggestions in the Dell S2716DGR comments (same monitor, the R stands for retail as i understand it). I used EmazingErik's (top comment on S2716DGR) 'perfect settings' and they are really really good for gaming. They made my browser window (white) a little yellower than my other monitor but that is an older BenQ gaming monitor too so who knows. The blacks are actually black on the Dell and the colors really shine through.
You can see in the screenshot that the battlenet launcher is half on the Dell (left) and half on the BenQ (right). I have 'optimal' color settings on the BenQ from internet suggestions, basically the settings i've been using for 3 years. You can see that the battle net launcher is really washed out on the BenQ, but the Dell really makes the colors pop and the blacks come through.
Its hard to tell in the picture but the Dell also has a 'no edge' screen. So the screen face goes all the way to the edge of the monitor but there is about a 1/4 inch of screen at the edges that isnt actually active screen. This is a huge improvement from my old monitor that had a 3/4 inch physical plastic frame/border.
I've only used this monitor for about 3 hours but so far i am very happy with it. I went from an older 24" 1080p 144hz BenQ w/o GSync to this Dell which is 27" 1440p 144hz with Gsync and i really enjoy it. I did extensive searching and comparing reviews and specs for my needs and my budget and this monitor came out for best specs for about $50 (at $400 when i bought it) less than similar monitors. Running GTX 6GB 1060 card.
Good quality build, good specs, noticeable quality and the ability for customization make it the best buy at the price point. Comparable monitors either have unreliable panels or are extremely expensive. This is a good compromise between quality and price.
