If you then slightly change the zoom you can hear the pitch change -- ca 3500 Hz.
I complained to Dell and they replaced the unit, but the second one has the same problem, so it's a design flaw in this "Revision A00".
For people aiming towards a silent pc, this is a disappointing problem, so I thought I'd point it out -- maybe if more people complain about it, it'll get fixed in the next revision! ...
CONS: the "IPS glow". The whites are too bright; black levels disappointingly low, difficulty during dark scenes; finicky viewing angle, sometimes visible light bleed;
Worth the price in the end. 1440p is amazing to game with, though it will require hefty hardware (GTX 690 here). Blu-Ray movies actually scale extremely well, something I was worried about. Even close-up, 1080p video looks great. My monitor has one dead pixel so far with a month of ownership, noticeable, but not worth the hassle of returning. This is something that's mostly due to IPS panels, but the whites on this monitor are blindingly bright at the default 75% brightness. I often will crank up the brightness for dark scenes, only to decrease it for bright scenes. The monitor stand is easy to adjust, but vibrates quite easily. Lastly, the bezel menu buttons really ought to be backlit; I find myself fumbling to find them.
And to address one common complaint from other reviews about a high-pitched whine when displaying certain font sizes (and from other causes), I can report that my Rev A01 panel does not do this.

To be fair, I like this monitor for its stunning resolution and accurate color reproduction until the screen displayed 'vertical lines' all of a sudden out of nowhere.
This may happen several times a day and may last from a few secs to a few hours.
Switching on and off doesn't help. Trying the built-in diagnostics doesn't help either.
What is appalling is that I am not the only user experiencing this problem as is apparent from the Dell user forum. Dozens of customers have complained about similar issues since early 2013. If you are still not convinced, read the one-star reviews on Amazon: refer to Dell U2713HM-IPS-LED CVN85 27-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor
Do you know if your invoice is more than 30 days old, Dell will only make a replacement with a refurbished set? I have read horrific stories of how customers still got defective sets after the fourth replacement! Seems to me Dell is trying very hard to get rid of those defective panels on unsuspecting consumers. What has happened to Dell? Seriously, after this unpleasant episode, I will never purchase any Dell product anymore. Sub-standard QC.
Finally, watch the uploaded video and see for yourself.
THIS MONITOR WILL NOT DISPLAY 1440p WITH VGA OR HDMI! If you are a laptop PC user like I am, this monitor does NOT come with a mini displayport to displayport cable, which is what I need to run full 1440p at 2560 x 1440 resolution because my laptop does not have a DVI port. Even though HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 have that capability, this monitor does not support it. If your laptop does NOT have a displayport, mini displayport, or DVI, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MONITOR!!! But I did find that VGA was able to display 2048 x 1152 over HDMI's regular 1920 x 1080.
Thoughts before purchase:
I bought this product knowing the chance of me receiving a faulty product with backlight bleeding, etc was highly possible. I considered purchasing directly from DELL to receive their newer versions of the U2713HM. However, I did not want to spend another $100+ and feeling a bit lucky, ordered this monitor. Data Master LLC sells these monitors a bit cheaper than DELL's Amazon account so I went with this as well.
Thoughts after purchase:
They sent this monitor over much earlier than I expected. I received it about 2 days later on a Saturday morning. With that aside, the monitor itself seemed to be perfect to my surprise. But when I ran the backlight bleeding test on Youtube, I found that the bottom left side of the monitor had some yellow bleeding. It's not as severe as many cases I have seen online, and it does not bother me too much so I can happily say I am content with this product. I know IPS monitors have issues with backlight bleeding, even ones that are $600+ (I choked saying that) so I decided to let it be.Read more ›
