PROS

* Great picture. Really sharp, with saturated colors and smooth gradients.
* You get 4K resolution (3840x2160) at 60Hz with supplied DisplayPort cable.
* Unobtrusive anti-reflective coating. (Some other Dell monitors, such as U3011, have a smudged sparkly appearance.)
* Two DisplayPort inputs (one mini and one standard) in addition to HDMI.

CONS

* Monitor fails to wake from sleep about one time in three on DisplayPort. Need to power-cycle monitor (and sometimes more than once). This is annoying, and I've been unable to find a proper workaround. Disabling DDC/CI and updating video card, and monitor drivers doesn't help. Using HDMI instead of DisplayPort fixes it, but this is not an option unless you're happy with 30Hz at 4K resolution.
* Some backlight bleeding: the blacks are not as dark as on some earlier Dell monitors. It's OK in well-lit room, but not the best if watching movies in the dark.
* (For gaming) monitor appears not to upscale lower resolutions. Some video cards might do this for you; another potential workaround is to use native resolution and disable antialiasing and other video enhancements in your game - you might then achieve an acceptable frame-rate with sufficient video hardware.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

The picture quality is superb. If you've not experienced 4K before, you're in for a treat. With the right tweaking, the sharpness matches (or almost matches) the quality of a printed page at a normal viewing distance of 30 inches. Sans-serif fonts render particularly well, especially with ClearType enabled. Photos are outstanding, displaying an incredible level of detail. It's hard to go back to a standard HD monitor after seeing this.

This monitor is very good, once you get it to work right.

The claim that it is visible 178 degrees does not seem to work out in practice; I can see changes in brightness if I change my angle of view.

The backlight sometimes bleeds through at the corners on a black screen, especially when you view the monitor at an angle.

But the color reproduction is excellent, and the screen is matte, without any gloss. I like the colors much better than in the ASUS PQ321Q 31.5-Inch 4K Monitor.

Early versions of this monitor had bad firmware which caused serious problems with it not waking up right. However, newer versions of the firmware are okay. To tell if you have the good firmware, turn the monitor off. Then, while holding down the 2nd and 4th soft buttons from the top, turn it back on. When all the soft buttons' LEDs light up, let go and then tap the top button. A Factory Menu will appear. Look at the number under "R" in the bottom left. If it is 1019R or later, then you have good firmware. If it's before 1019R, then you probably have bad firmware.

I once had a version of this monitor which, when it tried to wake up out of sleep, continuously flashed the "Going into power saving mode" notification box, almost as if it was in an infinite loop of trying to go in and out of power savings mode. That monitor also had backlight bleeding in the left corners which was too bright to be acceptable. So I returned it for another one, which was still revision A00, manufactured in December 2013, but which has the 1019R firmware.

So, contrary to what my gut feeling suggested and what people warned me around the web, I've bought a Dell UP3214Q. Really, I've been stunned by how good its panel is, how good is the picture, the back-light, the color and its superb resolution of a 4K screen.

Until it just turned itself off. Or on. Half of it. Or turned off for good before a power cycle or a dozen of those. Then Nvidia modified drivers for it to work, helped a bit. Tiny bit. Dell refused to give out firmware that helps, but insisted on replacing the screen with A00 revision for... well, you had a lottery: you could get A00 again or A01 that is a bit fixed, but not quite as A02. Nobody could guarantee good exchange, so I gave up on exchanging and decided to stay with sometimes a working display.

After my screen got the ugly vertical slew of million broken pixels (seems this device even kills pixels in millions [...] I've tried to replace it with DELL. Since I've bought it in Europe, I've tried contacting multiple Dell support lines, finally getting a service call arranged after a few weeks of trying and then - Dell failed again.

Dell doesn't really support all EU equally. If you don't live within 100 miles of their service center, they want you to first ship them your old display (if you're lucky to find a box for it, a 40lbs package, which costs $500) and then sit patiently waiting for a replacement which is usually shipped "within 3-4 weeks" or a week if you're lucky enough that they did ship it prior to calling you.

Good that Dell doesn't value all its customers money equally or at all. Some areas get on-site engineer help, some dont.
