Not great for push-to-click, but decent value otherwise

Definitely not a high-end touch surface. I use a MacBook Air and a Magic Trackpad for most of my computing, but I wanted another trackpad for my secondary computer and for use with the Raspberry Pis I test with, but I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg.
Even for about $15, this trackpad has the same cheap feel as a sub-$10 mouse; it's plasticky, the surface is a little too sensitive for my liking (if you press too hard while tracking, it won't register as a mouse move, and if you push too lightly, it doesn't register either—you have to train your hand to push just so), and right clicks sometimes don't register unless you click way in the bottom right.
If you tap-to-click (instead of press), I think you'd probably rate the trackpad as a four-star device (for the value). But as I'm a push-to-click guy, I have to go with three stars. Great price, but the experience of using it has almost forced me back to my cheap mouse.

Superior to Apple in every way!

I don’t know what these other reviewers are thinking saying that this device is fairly close to the Apple touch pad, because for the price difference (I paid $36 for this on Amazon Prime at the time of this review), Logitech has Apple beat by at least 400% ... let me explain:
First and foremost, the Apple magic pad is right around the same height and angle of incline, but it is much thinner and for me anyways, has been prone to being ‘off the level” when it comes to the push click action. On the Apple pad, there is only one side of the device that does register a click (the bottom left corner), where-as the Logitech has click buttons on both the left and the right side of the device, and the bottom of the device is all flat (where the apple device is more like a thin piece of glass inclining upwards then resting on a cylinder. The Logitech is most definitely built stronger than the Apple pad, and this issue I’ve been describing with the Apple pad being a thin piece of glass resting on a cylinder is part of that stability issue. Logitech did away with that.
The Logitech is a heavier and therefore much more solid piece of hardware. The ‘texture’ feel of the glass is exactly the same as the Apple pad. Also, it connects to my Mac over Bluetooth more quickly than my Apple pad did. Why? Because the Logitech has a bluetooth connect button where the Apple device makes you hold down the power button for 5 seconds and if the device is on and you hold the button down for 5 seconds, all you do is turn it off ... then you have to wonder what happened ... then repeat the button holding and again ... you can get confused and have to repeat this process a few times before it actually becomes ‘discoverable’ ... with the Logitech, you open up your bluetooth properties on your mac, slide the power switch on the T651, hit the bluetooth button and tell your mac to pair with it and its done. No guess work involved and it syncs just as quickly as the Apple pad does.
Beyond that, Logitech offers the exact same gestures and options as the magic pad, but even adds a couple of custom gestures such as a left swipe from the edge of the device to pull up the notification center.
You also have an option of one finger dragging with a one finger double tap and hold, the option of scrolling with or without inertia, and it includes a low battery indicator that shows up on the screen when the battery needs to be charged which only takes a couple of hours for a full charge. They say in the manual that you can get a month out of the battery with two hours of use each day. Thats 60 hours of continuous use from a single charge. Thats pretty sweet actually. Very few people have their finger on their touch pad constantly when they are using their computer, which means most of us will appreciate usage much longer than a month per charge.
Should you buy this even if you already own an Apple magic pad? ABSOLUTELY!!! It’s only $36 on Prime, and you’ll have a second hand backup (your Apple device) should your two year old chuck this one into the dogs water dish.
I’ve already broken two of the magic pads from very short drops onto a tile floor. The glass cracks and inevitably it affects the physical click of the device which really sucks. I have higher hopes for the Logitech T651.
If Logitech would combine the T651 and the K811 keyboard (also very much superior to the Apple wireless keyboard), they would be the only company producing the PERFECT Apple keyboard in my opinion.

The Apple Wireless Magic Trackpad is exceptionally fine technology, beautiful, smooth as silk, and very nice to use. I use it with a PC (a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7). One of the reviews here (by Cliff G) discusses how to install the trackpad under Windows 7. I followed his instructions successfully and installed the Magic Trackpad Control Panel, obtainable on a trial basis at http://trackpadmagic.com/magic-trackpad. I found that I had to get a Bluetooth dongle [[ASIN:B00DDH4TYA (Broadcom BCM20702 chipset) UtechSmart USB Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy Micro Adapter (Windows 8, 7, XP, Linux Compatible; Classic Bluetooth and Stereo Headset Compatible)]] because I couldn't get the built-in bluetooth in the laptop to discover the trackpad. The UtechSmart bluetooth 4.0 dongle installed easily & discovered the trackpad OK. Driver installation for the trackpad took a little experimentation, but in the end I'm happy with the result. My right hand is especially happy about not having to grip a mouse ;^).
I can't get all of the gestures to work like they undoubtedly would on an Apple machine, but the essential ones work well (left click, drag, double click, right click, and scroll. Not rotate, pinch, or zoom, page forward/backward, etc.)
Additional tedious details for those still interested: Before attempting the Apple Wireless Magic Trackpad, I tried a Logitech touchpad that I found harsh to work with and returned. I also tried the [[ASIN:B00AM0SI16 Dell TP713 Wireless Touchpad]], but I couldn't get it to work on my laptop (I have a hunch that's because my Toshiba laptop originally came with Windows 8 but we downgraded it to Windows 7 for work reasons - it occasionally has an issue with a hardware driver for this reason). But the Dell works perfectly on my Microsoft Surface Pro, installing instantly with no questions asked.

after many years acute tendonitis in both wrists (rsi not caused but aggravated by computer use) was making it too painful to use a mouse. I have been using a wireless keyboard on the bed (instead of the laptop) and wanted a portable touchpad. this is lightweight, stays where I put it, sensitive to touch, I don't use the advanced features that require extra download, and the cord is not inconvenient as I expected. I plan to use windows 7 for a few more years so I don't need new touchscreen features of other expensive wireless pads I considered. I ordered this based on the reviews by people with wrist injuries and I'm so glad I trusted them, frequent sharp pains are history!

Great lapdesk that works!

I already had the older "spartan" model of this Lapdesk (Logitech N315) for my household personal laptop...and we love it. There's merchants that are trying to sell the old N315 lapdesk tray for $189 ( that's 6x the originally MSRP of $29.99). However, since Logitech is no longer selling the N315 I decided try out the N600. The N600 is a smart lapdesk that comes with an integrated wireless touchpad. A nice bonus for people that have laptops with terrible touchpads (Like the Lenovo U430 Touch Ideapad). Additionally, I was pleased to learn that the N600 lapdesk is reversible. Just flip the lapdesk over and you can use your own mouse on the bottom of the pull-out touchpad. Nice! The only issue i had was the batteries that are included with the N600 had exploded inside the battery cover. So I had to remove them and clean up all of the dried batter acid from the battery cover. I installed four new AAA batteries and I was back in business. Everything works perfectly with the new touchpad. No special software or drivers needed to be installed to use the touchpad on either of my Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Home Lenovo laptops. The colors of this lapdesk aren't too manly (black bottom, white top, and purple touchpad\mouse pad). The N600 is about 2 Inches wider and twice as thick as the older model it replaced(N315). These changes in the new model make sense because most new laptops are wider and more space was needed to house the touchpad\batteries. Overall this was a great deal for under $20.

Definitely an Improvement over Version 1

I've used the previous version of this trackpad for many years, and instantly leapt to buy one directly from Apple when they became available. This review is mainly about whether owners of the previous model should also update.
I liked the previous model to the point where I bought copies for home, work, and my son's desk. Trackpads might be the piece of hardware with which Apple is farthest ahead of its competition. (I've had the distasteful task of reviewing some of the competition's trackpads too.) I'm not a fan of Apple keyboards or mice, but in trackpads they dominate. So, making a better trackpad is an ambitious undertaking.
My only real problem with the previous trackpad was the rate at which it consumed batteries. Even though I keep a battery charger on my desk, and there was no waste involved, I don't want to take the time every week to unscrew the battery container and replace the batteries. It was annoying. This new trackpad has a convenient Lighting port which, if I am so inclined, I can just leave plugged in all the time. The Bluetooth item in the menu bar will even tell you its charging status. Apparently, Apple figures most Mac users will have plenty of Lightning cables attached to appropriate chargers on their desks. Similarly, the remote on the new AppleTV also takes a Lightning cable for charging. Apple will not be bullied by the universe into using USB-C for low power charging. So, yes, much improved on the convenience front.
Battery usage is better than before even if you don't go the constantly tethered route, I was able to go 26 days on a charge, while using the trackpad for an average of a couple hours a day. Oddly, my Mac didn't warn me the first time the battery was low. The trackpad just went dead, which in its case means it became inert with no clicking feedback. Tethering it immediately brought it back. The second time, the Mac warned me of a low battery.
I assume that after many charge cycles and many years, the batteries will go bad and tethering will become the only mode available. I've seen estimates online that indicate this might take 20-30 years.
This newer model has Force Touch, which is compelling, if your apps supports it and you can incorporate it into how your brain communicates with your computer. Since many of us use Safari, we get out of the box support in a most convenient way: hard tapping on a link will bring up a peek into the contents of the linked page. This is fabulous, if, again, you remember to do this, and you avoid doing it by accident. Wow, I can just peek and not navigate all the way there. On the other hand, you are going to do this by accident sometimes, and it is less fab then. As other apps add this to their toolkit, it's going to become a must have. Really nice.
The older model was more affected by its environment. A stray cable that crossed it would often interfere with its tracking. This one seems much less susceptible.
Also, you can now tap easily anywhere on the trackpad's surface and register a click, wherein the older model was really only good at clicking towards the bottom. I have half a lifetime of muscle memory for using my thumb for clicking, but if I can unlearn it, it will make mousing much more fluid and quick. The sound of clicking is a bit loud and could be more harmonious—but because the clicking is only feedback instead of integral to the mechanism, you can just go to the Trackpad control panel and mute it. Great for crowded offices. Unfortunately, there is a bug where the system stops honoring "Silent clicking," but disconnecting and reconnecting brings it back.
It's bigger than its predecessor, but not so much as to be noticeable in actual use. It lies flatter and can be used on non-flat surfaces, unlike the older model whose mechanism was picky about where it would work. I can balance it on my belly or leg and still have it click. Quite an improvement.
Gestures remain as smooth as a proper glass trackpad should provide. If you take full advantage of such features as two finger swipe for back and forth in Safari, two finger scroll, or the five finger pinch to get to the app launcher, you will be at least as happy as before. I always recommend hiding the back/forward buttons in Safari to force yourself into the swiping habit.
So, yes, this is a better trackpad. If you are wealthy, get yourself one or more. It's tempting.
I don't normally bring up price in my reviews. The cost is one factor that the consumer can read himself. But here the question is whether the Trackpad 2 is worth its price premium over the older model. For many users looking to upgrade, I'd say no. The older model is almost as good at half the price. If you are a Mac developer and need to incorporate Force Touch in your software, run out and buy one. Otherwise, wait for more software supporting Force Touch, and for Apple to come to its senses and lower the price.
In summary, the greatest trackpad in history. But too pricey.
