This machine is AMAZING.
Before buying it, I read every review (both text and video) I could find on this computer. It is pretty pricey, so I wanted make sure it would be worth it. The reviews were mixed but most of the negative reviews had something to do with either the system NOT being suitable for gaming, NOT being super portable, or in some way having failed internal parts. Some of the reviews were bang on the money... if you were to receive a defective product then no worries if you decide to give it a poor review. Some of the reviews, a lot of them in fact, had a lot to do with unrealistic expectations.
I bought this system because as a lawyer, I wanted a portable machine that was simple, had a small footprint, and would serve well for both business and recreation. I did NOT BUY THIS FOR GAMING. Why would anyone buy an all-in-one for gaming? Most gaming desktops or laptops use high-end, quad-core (at least) CPUs with high-end graphics cards... these need lots of cooling and most have large, loud, fans. All this requires space. This unit is very thin and that is great for what it was designed for.
So... a few comments (I hope these will be used by prospective buyers who are currently sitting on the fence),
1. It has a VERY good display. HD and plenty bright. I use the display at the lowest setting most of the time while sitting on the couch surfing or reading... no problems and good for battery use reasons.

It a really nice idea. The screen is big enough that it's comfortable to look at if you use it as a primary computer (much better size than 13.3" laptops). It's light enough so that you can easily move it around the house. We use it to watch t.v. in bed at night, as we don't have a separate t.v. in the bedroom, and the XPS 18 works well for this. The charging stand feels pretty sturdy and puts the computer at a good height when sitting at your desk.
Terrible build quality: I've had this computer for about 2 weeks and have already had 3 problems with it. (1) The rubber bumper that surrounds and protects the screen is already coming off on one corner. We don't have kids, this computer hasn't left our house, and we otherwise treat it very gently. Yet, it's still falling apart after less than 3 weeks. I happened to see a floor model at Costco today and the display model had the same problem to a larger extent. The corner we're having a problem with has substantially separated from the computer on the display computer and the other 3 corners are also starting to separate. Seeing the display model at Costco just confirmed to me that they have an issue with their build quality, which is ridiculous given how much they're charging for this item. (2) Consistent with the build quality of the computer, the keyboard and mouse that comes with the unit is incredibly cheap given how much you pay for the computer. The keyboard that came with my computer was actually broken when it came out of the box (the top plastic layer was peeling off as it wasn't tucked under the edge properly).Read more ›
I'm glad I splurged and purchased this for my self.
It is only limited by the speed of your network. If you want a hardwire connection, just get a cheap ethernet-USB 3 cable. Has Wi-Di if you have a Wi-Di TV or TV Streamer that it can push to. Use a second monitor like that if you want. :-) An awesome awesome computer. A little heavy maybe for girls, but it fits nicely on your lap like a food tray. And maybe your arms will get a little stronger.
I haven't even had to use the mouse and keyboard yet, except once running something on the desktop. My 12mp photo retouches are a snap and quick! Browse and edit your giant photo, video, or music library with no slowdown. Put it in the kitchen while cooking with it's feet down, sit with it in your recliner, use it as a video streamer while on your work PC, prop it up on your coffee table. The uses are infinite. Battery could last a little longer, but with the stylish charging station it sits in my living room looking like a digital photo frame while it charges. Play Galactic Reign or some other game and you will feel like Data or Sulu from Star Trek on the bridge of the Enterprise! Warp Speed, Mr Scott! Smith, out.
