Anyone who grew up in the 60s and 70s will relate to this book ... Times were simpler then, and kids could be kids without parents having to worry. There was no cable television, DVDs, video games, computers, or cellphones. Kids had their bikes, their friends, and their imaginations. Sandlot baseball games and swimming in the summer and sledding and snowball fights in the winter. Kids were expected to leave the house early and not come home until dark...tired and blissfully happy from spending all day building forts, exploring, and, yes, causing mischief! The author is a great storyteller, bringing each person and event to life, making you long to be a kid during that era again. Hysterical, uplifting, and truly laugh-out-loud funny!

Having grown up right around the corner, and knowing most of the characters, this was a wonderful trip down memory lane. Eric has a great knack for story-telling, and a gift for remembering the details that really boost the reading experience. This was a special neighborhood, with great families... a true community that shared their lives and had each other's backs. I'm proud to say I grew up on Delmont Street, and now have these stories in print to remember forever. Thank you Eric Mann!

Great book. Just finished the book on my Kindle. Even though I wasn't from that neighborhood, I spent a lot of time close to it. I also found myself trying to figure out if I knew anyone by the description, or by stories I heard my husband tell. It really made me think of the same things in my neighborhood back then and now..., the crazy mom's, the mom's that cooked, the families that took car loads of kids places, the yards we hung out in, the sleepovers...on and on. I hope that raising my 3 kids in Manchester Ct now, we will be remembered as being welcoming to neighborhood kids and families, and doing cool and funny things. The part that was sad, but so real was "We were growing up; we were finding a world outside of Delmont Street." because that is true in every neighborhood. Thank you!

Think of Eric as a collector, he probably developed that trait from his mom as she had a pretty impressive collection of Hummel figurines . Eric on the other hand collected friends, LOTS of them,.... I grew up with Eric on the periphery of the Delmont gang, (Henry street ) and have shared some of these experiences he writes of. I believe everybody north of center street back in the day was a friend or positively acquainted by Eric Mann's because the guy is so dam funny. To be able to purchase a book that he wrote is a real treat. To be able to read and identify the people , places and things he writes about is a complete hoot. This book is not a piece of fiction in any sense of the word but an amazing recollect based on our reality, paper route's , sledding and dear old "Mrs. Velte". So buy the book ! No matter your journey in life Eric's read will leave you amused . This book is a "keeper"

This was a fantastic read! Having grown up in Manchester during that time period, this book brought back many fond memories. This author put together an excellent compilation of stories that everyone will love. It made me laugh out loud, while reflecting on childhoods in close knit small towns. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to remember childhood antics. Loved it!

If you were a kid growing up in a mid-size town in the late 60s and 70s this is your life on paper. Especially if you grew up in New England. Eric Mann sums up everything great about those days and he will make you laugh at the silliness of it all AND cry because you long for those days to return. Everyone in the age range of 45-60 will love this book, but everyone from Manchester, CT should read this and see their life unfold before their eyes. I am giving my copy to my 15-year-old son to read next, so he can see what my life was like. Thank you, Eric Mann!

This is a great read. It's the type of book that keeps you company as you tumble along through the story with the author.

I was intrigued by how different growing up can be for a boy than for a girl, and also by the deep impact of siblings who are close in age. The author is utterly honest and the stories are sometimes charming, sometimes sad, and consistently colorful. The characters are sketched out in a way that makes you almost think you are watching a movie.

Buy the book. It will make you laugh and touch a lot of other emotions as the story takes you for a very fascinating ride.

I loved this book - I could not out it down. At many moments, I literally laughed out loud. I too grew up in Manchester, CT but a decade after Mr. Mann. I think that anyone who grew up in the 60s and 70s from any neighborhood in any town could enjoy this book. It was about a time when kids actually played outside. Got into scrapes with the neighborhood kids and made lasting memories. It makes me miss times when your bike was your prized possession, there was no such thing as stress and your friends were your world. I know that this is his first book and I certainly hope that he writes more - his writing style and story telling seem to come very naturally to him.
