As a leading OE supplier to the automotive industry, Delphi holds more than 30 OE-proprietary innovations and 150 patents in fuel module and pump design. As a result, our fuel pumps restore fast-pressure performance and system integrity to provide better pumping through less energy. Delphi fuel pumps feature internal springs for increased durability and enhanced stability, while a lower amperage draw places less load on a vehicle’s electrical system. Our fuel pumps include a large volume reservoir to better handle low-fuel situations and vehicle cornering, as well as fuel-level, gold-filled sensors for improved corrosion resistance. Other benefits of our fuel pumps include consistent pump flow, an enhanced filtration system for longer pump life and an OE-service body harness and connector for superior performance, durability and ease of installation.

Where Does Delphi Quality Come From?
Our parts are engineered with the same stringent standards applied to the parts we make for the top global OEMs.
Our rigorous testing ensures superior reliability and readiness for the road ahead. In fact, our parts are tested up to 150,000 miles and in more than 20% ethanol.
For Over 80 Years
Our expertise goes back to the beginning and we’re still innovating today. We’ve been a manufacturer of dependable fuel delivery parts for over 80 years.
We utilize the latest OE technology and components to bring OE quality and durability to our fuel line and even make enhancements over some OE designs. In fact, we hold more than 30 OE-proprietary innovations and patents in fuel alone.
Fueled by Innovation: Delphi's OE DNA
When it comes to choosing the parts for fuel delivery systems, reach for the brand that delivers the most advantages: Delphi. In the aftermarket, we’re best known for our fuel management program. As a world leader in fuel pump technology and an OE manufacturer, we apply our high quality standards to every part we sell.
Why Do Fuel Pumps Fail?
OE fuel modules and hanger/senders, which house the electric fuel pump, typically operate for 7-10 years before failure, depending on a variety of circumstances. Premature failures can be caused by:
- Extreme hot/cold environments
- Contaminated fuel, which can cause rust or corrosion
- Excessively running a vehicle on an empty tank. Running near empty does not keep the fuel pump fully submerged and can cause the pump to overheat.
- 21% of returned fuel pumps failed because they operated in a contaminated system. Before installing a new pump, make sure to visually inspect for dirt, rust or discoloration.
Start Your New Pump in a Clean Environment
Replacing the fuel pump strainer is required to validate the warranty, but it is not enough if the tank is dirty. Make sure to inspect and clean the fuel tank as well.
Clogged filters are a leading cause of premature pump failure, so replace the fuel filter if it is not internal to the assembly. Internal filters are not serviced separately.
A Pressure Test is Not Enough to Condemn the Pump
High fuel pressure can often be attributed to a fuel pressure regulator issue or a restriction in the return line. The engine may run rich or fuel trims may be elevated.
Low fuel pressure can be caused by insufficient power or ground to the fuel pump or a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator. Contamination in the system can cause restrictions to the fuel feed lines, fuel strainer, or fuel filter.
No pressure can be due to a faulty relay, fuse, wire harness, or oil pressure switch, tripped inertia switch, or dried test fluid.
What to Check Prior to Repair
The pump may not necessarily be the cause of fuel-related driveability problems or failures. So make sure to:
1. Confirm there is fuel in the fuel tank
2. Check fuel pressure
3. Check flow
4. Check fuel filter and pressure regulator
5. Perform a voltage drop test
6. Check electrical connections
7. Clean tank and inspect for debris
What Tools Will I Need?
Safety glasses and gloves are always recommended. Delphi also recommends a digital voltmeter, pressure gauge, and graduated cylinder. You should always have a fire extinguisher on hand.
Never smoke or work near anything that could cause a spark or ignite fuel, such as pilot lights or incandescent light bulbs. Work in a well-ventilated area. Keep clean-up materials on hand, and clean up any spills immediately.
Always relieve fuel pressure prior to opening fuel systems. Store fuel in an approved container like a gas caddy or gas can.
Fuel Module Assemblies
The Delphi fuel module is a complete assembly, meaning that all the necessary components, like filters and strainers, are included for easier installation. It's a complete repair in a box, backed by smart designs, extreme testing, and a limited lifetime warranty.

The biggest issue was draining the tank. These vehicles have an anti-siphon device, so you can't just use four feet of garden hose and siphon away....:-(. So, put the vehicle's rear wheels up on a set of drive-on ramps. Disconnect the 2" fill line from the gas filler tube, and you can siphon from there.
To save a lot of problems, you'll need to drop the rear of the tank about six inches and reach up over the front of the tank to the two fuel lines where they connect to the chassis. you can't see them, but you can feel them. Driver's side just over the frame rails. Downstream of the filter. (Be sure to order and replace the filter, too.) There are squeeze together ears on the connectors. Squeeze and they'll pop off. (You did remember to use your fuel pressure test gauge to bleed off the pressure, right? I didn't....)
Then, carefully drop the tank down, popping lines out of their clips as you go.
LOTS of info on YouTube, so I'd watch a few videos before starting.
In summary, pump works fine, great price on a quality, name brand pump (saving a few bucks on a cheaper pump is NOT a good idea. Lots of effort to replace it, so buy a good pump!)
Clean the tank, install a new filter, and be safe...a fire extinguisher nearby is a good idea, just in case.
This pump was $100-$150 LESS on amazon than at Napa, O'Riellys, and Advance Auto Parts. The three local auto parts places refused to price match, so Amazon got my business with overnight shipping.
The old one had developed a crack in the pickup tube, causing the truck to starve for fuel when the tank got below 1/2 full.
This pump assembly is the updated design, and is more robust than the original design. It is a complete assembly that includes the pump, pick up tube, fuel strainer, level sending unit, and the sending unit arm and float. It also came with a new electrical pigtail, and everything fit perfect.
Just be prepared when you drop your gas tank, the ring on the top that holds the pump in, does not like the play ball. I'd buy the tool if I did this again.
But the pump itself works great and my 2003 z71 Tahoe is on the road again. Been about a month so far, no problems yet.
