Top customer reviews
I looked long and hard for a fan that would be small enough and powerful enough to fit in my ceiling. I looked no further than this fan. Having only a 4 inch height and being a 70 CFM fan, this one was a perfect fit. The device is super easy to install. Simply line the device up with the center-most joist and screw it in. While my particular job wasn't easy, this fan made it as simple as it could be.
After having the fan installed for a few days, I've noticed immediate relief. The fan does an excellent job of sucking air outside and I've had virtually no moisture problems since using it. Not only that, but this fan is extremely quiet considering its power rating.
I would recommend this fan for anyone who wants a quiet, gentle fan that needs to fit in a small space in an existing home.
One reviewer questioned about the reason for the 1-2 degrees gradient for the duct work going to the outside. The instruction does not explain why. It is to allow any condensation inside the duct to drain out instead of flowing back to the exhaust fan housing. If possible, it is a good practice to insulate the exhaust duct to reduce the condensation inside the duct work, especially in the bathroom installation.
One minor issue: Instructions indicate that the fan housing goes inside the square cutout at the ceiling. If you do that, 3" plastic exhaust rests right on top of the ceiling drywall leaving no room to to add an adapter from 3" to 4" duct. You really don't want to use a 3" duct unless the length is less than a few feet. If you decide to let the housing sit on top of the drywall as I did, you need to adjust the dimensions on the cutout ceiling accordingly.
The fan is much quieter than the old one, and is working as expected.
The install was not too bad, but did require some time in the attic. The opening size was slightly smaller on one side than the original fan that was installed in my house. This was corrected by gluing a piece of drywall to the joist to cover the gap. The cover is large enough to cover up this type gap. The performance of this fan is great, you can barely here it running (likely due to the squirrel cage fan design vs. standard loud fan blade). It has a green light on it that lets you know it's on.
Seems to be a well worth it purchase to replace a 4 SONE fan and reduce the noise level by 75%+.
However, that unit was twice the money.
That unit is quieter and more powerful, however, the Delta does the job it is designed to do. Installation is easy for small spaces, and it does move the air. I will buy another for my third bath when I finish remodeling my second.
