The price was right with this particular product. You will see when looking at other items that there are more expensive versions available. I can't imaging what they would offer over these to justify the price. They are easy to use, have numerous mounting options (use your imagination), and are lockable if you need a little added security. I see no reason to pay more, unless you just like having the Thule or Yakima logos to look cool.
As far as I can tell you could mount these just about however you like, including directly to your bed. I didn't want to do that, so I looked around on Google and saw what some other folks did for a removable solution. I blended a few ideas together and used some 2x6's to create a simple, cheap, and removable option. I was very surprised and pleased to see how solid the bikes rode when clamped in. They didn't seem to move an inch.
I have no negatives to list for this product. I haven't had them long, so they only thing I can't attest to is durability in weather. I do not plan to leave mine out when not in use, so that shouldn't be a factor for me.
So, in summary, if you are looking for a cheap, sturdy, versatile mounting option for a truck, just buy these and save yourself some money.
I bolted these into the bed of my truck and they look like they belong. I took the bikes on a drive to a local path and it works just like you would expect a fork mount to work. I am very happy with the product overall and would definitely buy it again.
The only thing I don't like (but has a simple fix) is that you can access the screw holes even when the bike is mounted. This would make it possible to take the entire mount off and the bike at the same time. I used security screws, loctite and lock nuts in mounting to combat this downfall and would be surprised if I could even get them back off the truck.
Install you own padlock to lock the cam closed.
The mounting holes are a little too big to use standard head wood screws so I had to use bolts in my application (not a big deal).
I would buy again.
Only complaint I have is that the spacer tab (the tab next to the quick release) sticks and hard to move back and forth. I tried greasing that part and it helped some.
I recently looked at the Delta bike hitch pro2 at a bike shop, it costs $10 more but seems lot more sturdy and the mechanism seems to be lot smoother.

The best thing about these is that they keep your bike from touching any other bike or rubbing on anything like those tailgate pads do. Also, it looks really professional and expensive. I've seen $300 bicycle mounts that look less professional than these relatively cheap mounts.
Have travelled thousand of Kms with bikes and so far so good.
This wasn’t our first option but after trying a bike carrier with a cheap adapter bar which broke this was a cost effective way transport bikes in the truck.
When not in use they are stored indoors. I have a feeling they would rust out and seize over time.
