I have read all the books in this series but this one is by far the best.
What do you do when you can't tell friends for enemies?
How do you learn to trust?
This book covered those questions in moving detail.
It's so well written, that for me, it felt like a film I had watched, rather than a book I was reading. Such clarity of detail that the author put in has given this book life. I had to keep reading, I just didn't want to put it down!
The plot was amazing, gliding from emotion, to action, and back until my head was spinning. The action scenes were superbly written and flowed really well.
I particularly loved the way the relationships between the characters changed and then changed again, it really enhanced the story and gave it such believability. Misconceptions seemed to be the order of the day.
This story is populated with some great characters. They are so well written that I felt I knew them. Their battles were my battles. Their successes were mine and their pain my pain. In fact I can honestly say that I was very deeply moved by the entirety of the story. From elation, to sadness, then back to thrilled excitement and so on. What a rollercoaster!
From my perspective this is the best book in the series.
I like the all the books of The Infernal Aether series immensely, it's very creative and a lot of fun to read. But this particular book blew me away!
If you are looking for an exciting, twists and turns filled book, with hope and courage and extraordinary situations thrown in too, then this is the book for you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I have only recently begun to delve the Steampunk-verse outside of the more mainstream title but Oxley has sold me on it as a genre. This story has a slice of steampunk, a cup of magic for grease, a pinch of swordplay to make it interesting and a dash of drama to tie it all together in a neat bow. Watch out Ballantine & Morris and Saintcrow, there's a new scribe in her Majesty's Kingdom and he appears ready to stay.
Straight into the action and drama from the very first page. A tense, often humorous and always intriguing read.
A great mix of Victorian era Great Britain, the paranormal, magic with a smattering of steampunk and plenty of action.
The characters are so well penned, both those that are easily likeable and the not so pleasant natured, rather downright evil or misguided.
A difficult book to put down and I begrudged having to do so to get a couple of hours sleep!
A wonderful series thus far and I'm so looking forward to the next book.
Probably best read after The Infernal Aether, as that's where one grasps who and what all the characters are.
No cliffhanger ending, an appreciated aspect indeed!
Now comes the patient (not so much) wait for the next book - 'twill be well worth it, these characters and their exploits make for a thoroughly enjoyable read!

First the ever frightening "Infernal Aether" and now "The Demon Inside".
I can't wait to read the third book in the series "A Christmas Aether".
Absolutely awesome! Scary as hell!
