First off, starting in a world of urban fantasy with just wisps and teases of magic left just enough up to the imagination and just enough wanting to know more was perfect.
I immediately fell in love with the two main characters. Not only were they real and likeable, they good without being annoying. It wasn't that they were perfect, because they're far from it. Rather, their imperfections made them so completely relatable. Mistakes were made. They learned. They grew. Both separate and together. As their love grew so did mine.
Kris, the legendary, if not quite outdated, rockstar trying not to fade out of existence, is so genuinely kindhearted and doesn't realize it because of past mistakes. He makes you smile through the pages, which, given his empathic powers, is pretty neat.
And his adorable manager, Justin, who sees life like coffee, warm and sweet if not just a little bitter at times. He's the kind of character you want to take and protect from anyone that might hurt him.
When they're put together you get a story of healing, forgiveness, self-worth, and acceptance through the power of family, love and, of course, music.
This is the sort of story that will leave you smiling and feeling all toasty inside.
And if you like coffee, probably craving some.
Its a world just a half a step off from ours where as it turns out just about anything is possible.
