The characters are all interesting and dynamic for the most part.
The plot is interesting and grows nicely into new problems without feeling like they were stapled on to keep the series going.
The first book I would give a 3 star rating due to grammar and punctuation errors, but overall the series is 5 stars.
Laura, Janis and Connie along with Jerry Clark and Stan Brickwalter, two football jocks, are stranded. They are all seniors in high school The car won't start. They were all set to go into the "haunted house."
Enter Mike Rawliins. He's a sophomore but he also works in his Dads Auto shop. They get Mike to start the car.
They also get Mike to go into the haunted house with em. Mike goes as long as they stop and buy salt and get holy water from St. Joseph's church. The others think he's nuts but go along with it. How right Mike turned out to be. Mike knows somethings in that house because he and his cousin were there three years earlier.
Once in the house the girls are less than enthused. Talk about creepy. Mike makes a circle with the salt and holy water. The others think he's really nuts.
Jerry and Stan are excited and Mike? Well Mike's been here before and he's less than enthused.
The guys then head for the cellar. The cellar that has a huge stinking sinkhole and a metal hatch. The guys try to pull the hatch up only to have it fly up on its own.
It releases a luminescent wave that goes through the entire house and crashs into their salt circle. This thing is screeching with rage and loud enough for the teens to grab their ears in agony. They all jump into the circle. The circle that is their only protection from this thing.
Enter an emaciated mixed breed dog. The dog dives right through the apparition, jaws ripping at thin air. The dog then begins herding the apparition as though it were a sheep. Snapping and growling without fear until inexplicably the monster disappears.
They all make tracks out of that house as fast as they can.
Mike takes possession of the dog. A dog he names Demon.
Mike folks let Demon stay and Demon becomes his dog. What a dog to have. Demon is an Austrailian Shepherd/Lab mix. At least thats what the vet comes up with.
Demon turns out to be Mikes best friend and as we go along Mike realizes that Demon is way more than just a dog.
Mike and his friends who now have a bond are on a rollercoaster of a ride.
Mike and Laura have the start of a relationship. A relationship that will prove to be very difficult.
Just one great read and being a dog lover I root for Demon. Five stars and then some.
high school kid that saves a group of seniors from
a real haunted house on Halloween.
A MUST READ SELECTION * * * * * FIVE STARS

The SyFy channel is still paying top dollar and loving what the kids are doing.
The gang are still trying to get the FBI or Homeland Security to pay attention to whats going on. To believe whats going on.
Mike is also getting more powerful. Seems every time Mike gets clawed by a haunt he gets more power.
Mike is also able to telepathically communicate with Demon after the two of them go through a seam and into the other world.
Mike also has to deal with High School and whats going on there.
Laura is turning into a real PITA. She's pregnant with another mans child. She still thinks of herself as Mikes girlfriend. Nope. That ship has sailed. She's also jealous of Gail and takes every opportunity to try and screw with her.
Mike will always be her friend. He's even agreed to be her coach in lamaze classes. But he has no romantic interest in her at all and he's getting fed up with her attitude. Laura screwed herself by her own actions and that something she's going to have to live with.
This was one fine read full of haunts, teen angst and loads of action. Oh and Demon of course.
