Yes, it's always tough starting a new series - you can't finish reading the first book, or it's such a winner that you're glued to the internet until you can one-click the next book... Trust me, you're going to want to one-click that next book with this series!
This series is grittier, darker, and more raunchy than the Immortal Vegas series that we all love (see, still can't let it go). It's a series of redemption. It's about overcoming the almost impossible task set before them by the eternal jerk, Michael. It's about learning more about Warrick and his demon team, the Syx. It's about meeting new, strong heroines and seeing how they interact with the Syx, and the world beyond this one.
I always thought that Warrick was a good guy, despite being a demon. I loved getting to know more about him - and his true form. I loved finding out how he came to fall, and learn that there is a way for him to redeem himself, and ultimately his team. I loved meeting Maria and came to realise that she really is a fabulous match for him. (Hands up all of you who, like me, were hoping that maybe he'd hook up with our girl, Nikki - trust me, Maria is just as great in her own way).
I could gush further, but don't want to ruin it all for you. Suffice to say, there are new friends to meet, and even a few surprise old friends to greet. Buy it, try it - and you'll love it!
Such a wonderful start to a series.....Jenn does it again!!!!
Do I recommend? Absolutely. Will I re-read? Most definitely. Enjoy folks.
The story starts when Maria, an undercover cop, unintentionally summons Warrick to help her while she's trying to take down a drug lord/gang boss that she has a personal vendetta against. It turns out the guy is actually a demon that Warrick has a long history with. Warrick and Maria have to work together to hunt down the big baddie. The story takes place just after the last of the Immortal Vegas series, Wilde Fire.
In this book we learn a lot about the Syx, which I liked since they weren't what I thought they were. They're basically commanded by Michael the Archangel which I hadn't realized from reading the previous books. Blue has a hand in what's going on as well and I really like seeing her. I'd like to see more of her in future books.
If you're a fan of the Immortal Vegas series I think you'll like this book, but there are some differences. This is paranormal romance for one, so the sexy times are a little more up front. Also, the Immortal Vegas series deals with Connecteds, people who are psychic or telekinetic etc. and there are gods from many religions. While those people exist in this world, that's not what this book is about. This book has more of a monotheistic tone, mainly due to Warrick's life experiences, but it's not so strongly religious it would be off-putting. Overall I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next one.
Finally, I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Since I enjoyed the Immortal Vegas series I would’ve purchased this book on my own.
