Did the book deliver? Yes. Both Ezra and Roman are interesting characters trying to reconcile what they are or who they think they are with what they actually do or feel. We experience Ezra’s hell and see the challenges Roman is dealing with as watcher of the supernatural in the London area. All of the supernatural stuff, but most especially the demons, angels and hell compare very favorably to two other good urban fantasy books that venture into angel/demon/hell territory I've read recently – Richard Kadrey's 'Sandman Slim' and John Conroe’s 'Forced Ascent' (Demon Accords Series). It’s interesting and exciting and suspenseful as you follow Ezra from his hell into Roman's world. Also, Ezra and Roman make a great couple – when the two of them tackle things together as a team... they are pretty awesome as two people teamed up against the world. I really liked the short appearances by Micah and especially Inigo from the previous book, but don't worry this book does work as a stand-alone read and a new reader will absolutely be able to appreciate both Micah and Inigo’s presence here.
So why not the 5 stars? Why four? Because even though I understand this is a paranormal romance, not straight fantasy, I still wished for fewer sex scenes and that some of them were more nuanced, more subtle. Also, the ending was lovely but I wished it was stronger, more weighty to balance out where the book had started.
Overall, really, I liked this book, will re-read both it and 'Bloodline' and would read another in the series. #RomanandEzra4Ever #InigoandMicah4Ever #TeamElsborg
It's definitely a lust to insta love story but the overall plot of an Angel falling for a Demon and vise versa was captivating and creatively written.
A little too much erotica for my personal taste, yet the overall story was so interesting I couldn't help but continue reading to find out if a Happily Ever After could happen for a Demon and Angel in love.
Oh and I hope Daniel gets his butt kicked for being such a prick!
FIVE STAR read. I don't hand these out like candy, I swear. This book is worth the time and the money. Highly original, deeply imaginative, evocative and stellar writing. I was left on tenterhooks the whole darn book. Elsborg has yet to disappoint me, and she upped her game in this book. Not to mention the cover is astounding! I mean, LOOK AT IT!! Gorgeous.
The characters were original and they immediately garnered my affections and support. Very well done. This books avoided all trope...the demons, angels and all kinds of supernats in between were familiar yet not; she but her spin on all of them. The final climax at the end, "The Fall" made my heart race and I was actually worried for the HEA.
No worries--we get it. And WOW is a great.
She painted Ezra almost perfectly in realistic detail, and his thoughts and emotions had me ruminating in weltanschauung.
My twisted little mind enjoyed the forbidden pleasures Ezra and Roman fell into. I don't know what I would have done if they had tailed Ez!
Angels and Demons. Need I say more?
4 demonic stars! Passionate and fun!
I looooooved, loved, loved this book!!! It’s good vs. evil in this demonic book! Ezra and Roman are electric together, and while most would say they don’t fit, (you know opposites and all); but they are perfect for each other!! The sexual chemistry between them is explosive! I don’t read paranormal romances usually, but there was something about this book that I just couldn’t pass up. Maybe it was the hot storyline or the exciting characters, I don’t know, but it all worked so well together.
This is the first book I’ve read by Barbara, but I will be reading more in the future!
