Also, they had a good return policy at Sinister Soles, where I got my boots, so I decided to go for it.
My shoe size wavers between 9 and 10, depending on the shoe, so I decided to go with a 10 for these boots, which was good because they fit perfectly at sz 10!
I had to loosen up the laces quite a bit to fit the boots around my calves, but then, woooohoooo! The zipper went ALLLL the way to the top and they look gooooood!
The only minor issue with wider calves are the buckles that go around the boot. In my case, the top one won't close.
There are several solutions to this problem however, depending on how crafty you are, or or how crafty you care to be. You can either lace the buckles together with some more shoe lace or perhaps a nice silver chain (There are a lot of chains and laces on this boot anyway, so one more won't cause a stir ;-))
Personally I actually found something called "scottish kilt extenders". I found some that were 3/4" wide (the width of the boot buckles) at the scottish trading company, and that will do the trick!
I've walked around some in them, they seem very comfortable so far, as most platforms are, and I luv luv LUV these boots already! They look amazing, they fit and to me, they were well worth the $$$. I have good experience with Demonia shoes from before, and I have a feeling these boots will be no different.
I typically avoid wearing anything with a high heel as I have a serious appreciation for comfort and stability and I expect footwear such as this to offer neither. These boots surprised me. The chunky heel makes them feel very stable, and because of the platform under the toe the heel doesn't seem so high. I experienced only minimal discomfort after wearing them several hours, so for those who wear heels regularly, these might actually be comfortable.
That being said, I purchased these to wear at the haunted house that I work at each October, and here's my experience from trying them on around my house this morning:
I typically wear between a 9 and a 10 in boots, so I ordered a 10 to be sure that they'd be big enough, especially considering that I'll be wearing these with wool socks. Wearing them with pantyhose, they were a bit big. There's just the right amount of room to add a cushy insole and thick socks, and I was pleased that they're actually wide enough at the front - my feet are narrow at the heel and wide at the front, which makes footwear difficult sometimes.
As far as the shaft goes, I experienced the typical issues that I do with taller boots - the ankles are loose, even when tightened all the way, and the calves just fine fit if I loosed the laces enough, albeit with a bit of gapping on either side of the tongue. I have rather shapely lower legs, and this is not a fault of the boot, it's just the way I'm shaped. There is plenty of length to the laces to allow for my generous 20" calves and still be able to run the laces through each grommet and tie a bow.Read more ›

Loved that they were wide enough for wide footed people. They didn't have issues when worn by a flat footed person as high heels sometimes do. Read morePublished 5 months ago by CT Reviews
