I'm always keen on seeing the other avenues the youtubers I subscribe to follow. Some good some bad. I approached this book with no expectations, but was definitely intrigued by the premise of zombies in the middle ages.
While some may feel zombie fiction is overplayed, and to a point I'd agree. there are absolute loads of military zombie stories out there. The setting of this book while not rewriting the entire genre, I think breathes a bit of life into it with its unique approach.
With Will's focus on weaponry in his youtube videos I was concerned that there may be too much babble about weaponry in the book itself. Fortunately that was not the case. It kept up a great pace without being needlessly verbose about swords, while quickly fleshing out characters in such a manner that you form quick bonds with them, and are bound to have a fast favorite.
There are several twists in the book that pleasantly caught me off guard, as well as some "WTF" moments that just left my mouth agape.
Demon's plague is a fantastic read, and I'm sure you'll find yourself awaiting the sequel as much as I am. I picked this up via kindle unlimited but was so impressed I had to buy it outright just to keep the copy on my kindle and in hopes of spurring Will on to the next chapter in what I hope is a tremendous saga.
Thank you Will for sharing this with us, you've absolutely impressed me with your writing talent.
Mr. Keith strike a balance that few authors, even famous ones, seem to have difficulty with. He avoids 'things work this way just because' without getting bogged down in minutiae. He trusts the reader to be smart enough figure things out without spelling it out all. I enjoyed the character connections that the characters themselves aren't even aware of. The characters are people that react intelligently based on what they know. I can't point to one single standard character trope, there is no ditzy chick, no jerk for jerkiness sake, no precocious child, etc...
If you want zombies that haven't been done do death, then this is the book for you. My only complaint is that there isn't second book. I want more.
Only two typographical errors noted in the book, which is rare in this age of author-published, electronic works.
