This is the start of the most important series of video games to emerge in the past twenty years. Seriously. I cannot overstate this. Remember the days when the player was forced to adapt to the game? Remember when games didn't hold your hand for seven hours and treat you like a lost child? Remember when you couldn't adjust the difficulty in order to abate your frustrations? Remember when you weren't forced to wade through a story you don't care about? I've said enough. Here's the synopsis.
When King Allant of Boletaria awakens the Old One, the (second) most powerful demon in existence, the world outside the Nexus again becomes a killing field for demons and their transmogrified slaves. The player, a stranger to Boletaria and the fog-consumed lands surrounding it, is tasked with gathering the demon souls found throughout five different zones...But to what end? For power? For the restoration of peace? For no reason at all? It's up to you, player! It all depends on what aspects of the lore affect you the most--if, of course, you so choose to delve into the story buried beneath the gameplay.
I could go into so much more detail concerning the variations of play style, the arsenal of weapons and spells available, the sheer satisfaction of figuring out and beating a demon, the exquisite level designs and the pay-off for revisiting earlier areas...but there's too much to say. Believe the hype, expect a sharp learning curve, then get this game and get all the other Souls games--so the world might be mended. Umbasa.
For experienced RPG players this game is an absolute delight - and just as fun for those new to the genre. If you are a fan of the Dark Souls / BloodBourne series - this is an original must-play. For the price point of a "greatest hits" game - this will return hours of fun and challenging gameplay.
Make sure you read the manual, simply because veteran players may not understand the symbols/dialogue windows that are shown (I thought I would be OK and ended up running into a few slightly confusing moments).
The manual itself is fairly easy to read for competent gamers - and many guides exist online to help players with understand what each individual stat means.
Beware that the game is definitely challenging - which is a nice surprise when comparing to current-gen games. This game will challenge the majority of players - while rewarding skilled gameplay and interesting weapon/skill combinations. I would reccomend this game for players who can curl up and play for hours on end - definitely not a game to jump in and out of for short gameplay sessions.
Replayability is not that high - but experimenting with other class/weapon combinations can be fun - and seeing how you can interact with the world/encounters differently can be a memerable experience.
There is no multiplayer options as well - which is available in further Dark Souls series games - but it is fun to watch players overcome bosses and tricky enemies
Definitely not a game I will forget any time soon - and I always come back every now and then for another few hours!
I found this game to be much easier than the rest of the souls series. However, I knew what to expect. Note that if you haven't played games like this before, you may find the game annoying and "unfair". This type of game is not for everyone.
I did find that most boss fights were rather easy, however, as well as most of the fights. Plenty of "ordinary" enemies that are tougher than most bosses in my opinion.

You must never give up and eventually you'll beat it.
Graphics are now outdated, but the game is good.
Atlus should remaster it for modern consoles.
