Editorial Reviews

Review

"To call Demons, Well-Seasoned a work of mystery, romance, historical fiction, or intrigue would be to do it an injustice. It's all these things and more: a lovely literary romp through time, place, and interconnected lives and spirits that draws readers in and proves riveting to the end."

PATRICIA V. DAVIS's SECRET SPICE CAFE TRILOGY is a magical realism/paranormal mystery series set aboard the historic RMS Queen Mary. it was amazing

WOW! Kudos to Patricia V. Davis, Author of "Demons, Well, Seasoned" for writing such an intense, intriguing, captivating, memorizing, memorable, and thought-provoking novel! I have a Patricia V. Davis hangover! This is a deeply layered symbolic novel that still has me processing and thinking! This is the third and final installment of "The Secret Spice Cafe Series". I would suggest you read all three to get to understand the characters and events. The timeline for this novel is the author's present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the story. The Genres for this Story are Fiction, History, Magical Realism, Paranormal, Folklore, and Religious Tradition. The author describes the colorful cast of characters as dramatic, complex, and complicated. The themes of Good Vs, Evil, Sisterhood, Belief, and Love can be seen.

Many of the characters that are in this novel are in the other books. Sarita has is a mother now, and complains how difficult being a mother is.

Sarita's Grandmother, who is a Vodou Priestess appears worried about a terrible evil premonition she sees on the RMS Queen Mary and wants to keep the family safe. The author goes to the past to show us how jealousy, rage, and history have shaped what is happening in the present. To ward off and fight this evil, the timing has to be specific. Everybody's lives depend on it. Characters from earlier books, Jane, Cynthia, Angela and Rohini all play a significant part in this finale.

There are some intense, dangerous terrifying, frightening moments, There also are some Kleenex moments. This is an amazing and unique novel that I highly recommend. This would make a fantastic screenplay. Patricia V. Davis has an amazing way of telling her story and her vivid descriptions are fantastic. I hope that the author hasn't closed the book and that we will get to see some of the characters again.

Patricia Davis presents her final installment of The Secret Spice Café trilogy, exceptionally compelling novels. Truly this is a well-researched, finely tune, fast-paced book combining magic, romance, and mystery laced with history.
The story is set on the Queen Mary. A spirited ship with many secrets and delightful history. It was wonderful to read again about the four capable, smart, and sometimes snarky women who opened the Café aboard the ship. It was like welcoming old friends.

As she weaves the stories of the characters from the past and present, I was captivated. Her characters are always believable and multi-layered. Her work remains compulsively readable—this time adding more supernatural elements, especially a peek into dark magick of Vodou, again well-researched. It may change the way you think about such things.

In this final book there is an epic battle of good and evil. Readers who pride themselves on figuring out everything before the author reveals it are in for a surprise. It’s not necessary to read the two previous books to enjoy Demons, Well-Seasoned, but I highly recommend it. This is not just a book, this is an experience.

At the end I was satisfied, and disappointed that it was indeed the end. Thank you, Patricia V. Davis, for an incredible ride!

This series was recommended by a friend, and though I read this book before the other two, I didn't have any trouble keeping up. The characters are well written and come to life on the page. I was especially impressed how the author managed to have triplets (kids no less) each with distinct voices but still feel like triplets. The story was engrossing, and just written really well. I'm now headed off to read the first two. Highly recommend!

I have loved following this trilogy of spirited women who start a restaurant on the Queen Mary, and find profound friendships and resolution to the troubling problems in their lives. But this third book in the trilogy amps up the stakes to frightening proportions. This metaphysical historical thriller makes a satisfying weekend read.

This last installment of the trilogy took me a bit longer to get into. I must admit, I had a hard time remembering characters from the other books. That probably hurt my enjoyment of it. But all in all, I want to go back again and again to visit the Queen Mary.

I've been immersed in Patricia Davis' supernatural three book series for weeks; so much so, that I momentarily stopped to read her memoir Harlot's Sauce. All I can say is that it has been a wild ride! All of the books are innovative, intriguing and creative. Her true story grabbed me and her fictions is non-stop fun. The Queen Mary as a ghost story backdrop keeps the reader wrapped in mystery, romance, friendship, food and fun. I highly recommend purchasing the entire set, then settling down for some "me" time.

Patricia is an artist! Her writing is so detailed, vivid and colorful that I could picture each character and the Queen Mary clearly as if I were watching a movie. I cried and laughed with the characters (out loud I may add) and absolutely couldn’t put the book down. I will miss reading about the women in this trilogy, wish there was more...

I loved reading this series, and about the nuances of two kinds of ships: historic ships and friendships.
And now Patricia V. Davis has added another facet for readers to ponder. Haitian Vodou isn't what I thought it was.
I'm going to miss these characters, the Queen Mary, and the way the author blends fact and fiction.
I hope she writes another book soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most perfect finish to the trilogy of the Secret Spice Cafe!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 29, 2019
I loved the entire trilogy but it was this book, more than the first two, that was the real page turner due to my fascination of the Vodou and the coming back together of all the characters throughout the trilogy.
At the beginning of the book I was sad that Christiano no longer had a lead role, althought the best was saved for the end. (No spoilers here!)
Patricia created such interest in the Queen Mary, her fascinating history and her mere existance as a hotel for those of us who have never been to Long Beach. Patrucia spun a web throughout the trilogy that keeps the reader enthralled and in snticipation of what vimes next. Reading the entire trilogy, I could see Rohini's shrimp, hear the pans clanging in the kitchen and imagine myself sitting in the elegant dining room aboard ship amid the culinary aromas and the ambience of the restaurant. I fell in love with the ship, the Secret Spice Cafe, the characters, their lives and their loves.
I will dearly miss the Secret Spice Cafe and can see myself returning to thee books many times in the future. I highly recommend this book and the entire Trilogy of the Secret Spice Cafe to everyone who like historically informative, suspenseful and page turning fiction. Thank you Patricia for many hours of wonderful reading experience.
