It has a deeper cup and more open bore than I'm used to, but I've been giving myself some time to adjust. It's coming together better than I expected. Responsiveness was good right away, and my sound is starting to focus. My intonation has been off a bit, but that's my fault, not the piece---anyway, that's starting to come around too.
I had read some comments from other cornet players on web forums who said that they thought the inside of the rim on Wick pieces was too sharp, which made endurance difficult. This hasn't been a problem for me at all. I think the shape of the mouthpiece is really good, playable and comfortable.
The main reason I bought this piece was to try and get more of a characteristic cornet sound with my cornet playing---less "trumpety." The Wick 4B gives me that. It isn't a drastic difference, but my sound is more "cornety" than what I was getting with my Bach-style pieces. Just a shade darker, but still clear and resonant, not muffled, and with a somewhat brighter sound within reach if I drive the air a bit.
I'm happy with my purchase, and I'd recommend this piece to other cornet players.
