The AVR-1713 supports services like SiriusXM Internet Radio, Pandora, and Flickr as well as Apple's AirPlay technology, allowing you to listen to music content from the iTunes library on your iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, PC, or Mac. The receiver is DLNA 1.5 certified and compatible with PCs running Microsoft Windows 7.

Audyssey Technology for Enhanced Audio

The AVR-1713 features a full package of Audyssey audio technologies for optimal sound quality. Audyssey Dynamic Volume offers real-time volume adjustment, while Audyssey DynamicEQ improves your system's surround effects during low volume levels. Audyssey MultEQ XT automatically sets speakers to suit your room's listening environment and the speakers' characteristics.

Consistent Power for High-Quality Sound

Each of the AVR-1713's five 80-watt channels is powered by its own discrete circuit. This allows the receiver to reproduce original sound more faithfully than conventional models, which use integrated circuits.

Create a 3D Home Theater System

The AVR-1713 features 3D pass-through technology. By connecting a 3D Blu-ray disc player and a 3D TV to the receiver, you can have a 3D home theater system with exceptional high-definition sound and video.

High-Definition Audio Support

The AVR-1713 supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio decoding for Blu-ray.

Minimum Signal Path for Clear Audio and Video

This receiver features a simple and straight design concept implemented in the signal paths to contribute to optimal audio and video playback. The signal paths are as short as possible to keep degradation to a minimum.

Play Different Music Simultaneously in Two Rooms

By setting up a power amp and speakers in a separate room and connecting them to the AVR-1713 in the main room, you can enjoy one AV source in the main room and a different source in the other.

The receiver comes with a simple remote control that runs on two AAA batteries (included).

HDMI Ports to Connect Your Mobile Devices

The AVR-1713 features six HDMI inputs, including one on the front. As a result, you can easily connect mobile devices, like a camcorder or tablet, and immediately enjoy videos, photos, and music.

Front Panel USB Input

With a built-in USB port, the AVR-1713 supports digital music playback from an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or other USB devices.

I bought this Denon receiver to replace my Sony Home theater in a box. The Sony lasted for about 8 years and then the center channel stopped working. My current setup has this receiver paired with Mirage Nanosat speakers and the subwoofer from my old Sony HTIB. I will replace the sub eventually. I wanted to write a detailed review to help folks who may be researching this receiver. So here are my thoughts:

1. INITIAL SETUP

Initial setup was easy. I bought Banana Plugs to connect speaker terminals which made it really easy to connect all the speakers to the receiver. A mistake I made during the initial setup was not connecting the network cable since I did not have a router near my entertainment cabinet (more on this later).

Using HDMI cables I connected my DirecTV DVR (to CBL/SAT), DVD player (to DVD) and HTPC (to Media Player).

Once I had the speakers and components setup, I powered up the receiver. It walked me through the Audessey setup. It was easy to follow instructions to do this and took about 10 minutes to do so.

I tested the sound after this point and was blown away! It sounded amazing even before I had tweaked my setup.

2. TWEAKS

a) On my DirectTV receiver (HR24-500), I had to enable digital audio output. The only format supported by this DirecTV box is Dolby Digital.
b) I had to make sure that my HTPC audio output was better than stereo where possible. Since I use this as my Blu Ray player as well, it is important that I get True HD output.

I can't help but repeat myself, the sound quality on this receiver is awesome.

3. NETWORK SETUP

The network setup had me banging my head on a wall for sometime.

I came from an Onkyo TX-Sr606 which developed HDMI switching problems about 4 years after purchase. This was the second Onkyo that failed so I decided to give Denon a chance.
Setup was a breeze; plenty of power for a medium size room. Sound is soft and pleasing. I also like the uncluttered inputs on the back; the assumption is that you will use HDMI mainly for the connections. If you depend on lots of component and toslink, this is not the device. All the audio formats are supported including DTS-MA and True HD. They show up in the panel as MultiChannel unlike the onkyo where it was spelled out.

I wish it had a wireless card in it; I've hooked it up to an Airport Wireless and was online quickly.

The airplay is awesome.

The manual is on a CD in PDF; no paper manual is included.

I am very pleased with the receiver.

Thanks for reading.

Read the reviews and decided this unit had just the right mix of features and price.

Pros:

Setup was pretty easy. Audessey is awesome! I bought the Energy 5.1 speakers to accompany my Denon. Love them, too. I like the fact that I can adjust the sound specifically for each input. I add a little more dialogue decibels when watching Netflix.

AirPlay works better than I expected. Only problem is once in a long while the airplay will say "another device is using Denon". Easiest fix is unplug denon for a few seconds. The airplay remote and Denon apps both work great.

I upgraded from a 12 year old JVC and the difference is astounding! Watching movies ( my primary use) that I've seen a dozen times sound brand new. I hear details I've never noticed before and the 5.1 mix is so smooth.

Cons:

If you decide to change cables for whatever reason, you'll need to turn one each input individually like during setup. Otherwise the ARC feature won't work.

Also, sometimes when switching from blu-ray to satellite, the unit will not connect properly and there will be no sound. This is resolved by turning the Denon off then on again.

Overall, this unit is well worth it. Especially if its your first 5.1 system or a substantial upgrade.

Denon made a winner here. If you've seen my review for the Cambridge Audio S30 speakers you know what receiver I am using to power them. This delivers ample power and clean warm sound. The setup with the receiver is easy and almost fool proof. I have a Yamaha and Pioneer receiver to compare to and I'd rank them in overall quality, sound quality, and overall ease of use: Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer. I'd estimate this is probably the best AV receiver to "plug and play" with basic functionality.

It is interesting to me when using the Audessy XT feature you can only calibrate at 6 points unless it is done manually. Also if you're using bookshelf speakers on a manual setup of speaker configuration if you choose "small" the receiver forces you to have a sub and if you change the sub "off" the speaker size and crossover changes to large speakers. Not a big deal since my sub came in today but annoying to fumble through without this knowledge.

I thought about returning the 1713 for a 1913 that was $100 less than this, but for some reason the 1913 cannot EQ the sub as it does not have Audessy XT. For pure sound I'd sincerely doubt there is a better receiver in this price range to match with Cambridge S30's.
