Each time I powered up the unit I would be surprised by another problem or issue. The Apple 4K tv would not be recognized. The sound return through ARC would not work for built in Smart TV apps like Netflix. Power off and on the Denon and the source would switch to a new input. Using the LG OLEDC7 tv to switch to apps from live tv; the Denon would power up the Apple TV instead of returning to the CBL/SAT input. The hdmi input would switch to audio input only with no video input. It was one surprise after another.
To help clarify the problems: I was using the tv remote to switch between the apps on the LGOLEDC7. I never asked the Denon receiver to change the hdmi inputs but the receiver changed the inputs on its own. I would have to locate the Denon remote to switch the input back to CBL/SAT. Sometimes the input would respond. Sometimes not. I plugged everything but the cable box into the LG tv to try to bypass the input issue. This did nothing to help.
I just found this article that confirms that Denon is aware of the problem. This is an answer to someone having similar issues from Denon tech support: "The issue you are having is due to an HDMIconflict and using ARC. The receiver is thinking you want to use the ARCfeature and is switching over to the TV Audio. This is because of theregulations that HDMI.org has put out for devices using HDMI. The only way tostop this from happening is to disable the HDMI control feature in thereceiver, but in doing that you also disable ARC for the receiver and you wouldhave to go into the setup menu each time you wanted to use ARC"
Loved how easy the setup was. Liked the idea of multi zones. The sound was crisp and the bass was deep. Really, really liked the iOS app to control the Denon unit.
I wanted so much for the unit to work but after many hours of chasing problems I gave up and returned it. Attempts included premium hdmi cables from Apple. A firm ware update from Denon. A call to Denon support who wanted me to send the day old unit in for repair! Switching hdmi inputs from the Denon to the LGOLEDC7 to bypass the Denon. Nothing worked consistently.
For $1,599.00 I expect a more reliable unit.
After listening for a week, the receiver is amazing. People are saying speakers are more important than receivers. I think it's absolutely not true in my case. I still run the same Klipsch speakers but the sound has improved significantly, "live", heart pounding sound with clarity. Other people noticed the differences as well without me telling.
P.S. iPhone can be the stand-alone remote for 4400H and 4300H with more functions then the Denon remote. The iPhone Apps are great for audio streaming.
