I use them while hitting golf balls, or walking. It's perfect length, clips to waist and the earbuds themselves fit me well. I have smaller ear canals so I have trouble with most earbuds in some way. (The Bowers and Wilkins C5 in-ear buds are also working out extremely well for my tiny ears (especially if you do not want to have batteries -as the Denon carries one AAA batt).
Overall, there have been a number of other earbuds like these to come out in the last two years so there is probably a better or comparible Sony version, but it must be said, these were out awhile ago and have been great for me. Carrying an extra AAA battery is the only hassle.
I tried the Bose over ear 'phones but decided the size and price were both a bit much for something I'll be carrying every day. I bought the Denons at duty free before a 7 hour flight and was pleased to find that a battery was included in the box. The battery compartment is a bit fiddly but the cover is captive which is clever - I've previously had some anxious moments looking for a small black plastic cover on the floor of a plane. The build quality is good and I liked the simple black finish - some of the phones I considered had attempted bling and consequently looked cheap and tacky.
Most importantly, the sound quality is very good with deep bass, clear mids and highs. It's not in your face, just pleasingly neutral with no colouration. I've since tried to hear the hiss mentioned in another review when noise cancelling is turned on, and totally failed to detect it. Either they had a dodgy sample or my ears are shot. The noise reduction also works well - turning it on produced the expected reduction in cabin noise.
I tried the different buds supplied, and found the medium size sealed well and were still comfortable at the end of the flight.
Very impressive, and they come in a very nice travel case which offers more protection than a pouch and has room for the extension lead, the supplied aircraft adapter and some spare batteries.
[further thoughts after about a month - I have now experienced the hiss mentioned in other reviews.Read more ›
Some other over the head headphones are too large to carry in on-board luggage if you want to minimize space in briefcases, and this one is very small and does a reasonable job of noise cancellation. The carrying case is very sturdy and double as a stand to display an iPod Touch or iPhone by inserting them into two external elastic bands. The plastic compartment for the electronics and battery, which garnered negative comments elsewhere, does not bother me since it reduces the weight.
The compressed audio restorer function helps a bit --it's a subtle effect but still noticeable. The LED changes color from blue to white when switching from plain noises cancellation to restorer. You can also run it without any cancellation if desired. It uses only one AAA battery.

I bought these (not through Amazon - at B&H in NY) before a 10 hour flight to Istanbul, had no chance to try before the flight. Read morePublished on August 19, 2012 by Dr. Mehmet Yusuf
The ear buds fit nicely and the noise canceling works, but the build quality is disappointing. The box connected to the headphones makes a hissing noise when turned on and feels... Read morePublished on September 4, 2010 by Yoshi
