Yeah that’s this read. And I wasn’t ready. I’m STILL reeling over how connected I felt to these characters.
This is the kind of HOT AS SIN light hearted read that stirs something way deep down inside you. The connection these characters have between one another coupled with how well they can just BE without even trying is mind blowing.
The passion, the steaminess, the struggle, and most importantly the love that bleeds off the pages of Deny Me makes it the phenomenal book that it is and will always be.
Evelyn is fiercely independent. Her mom raised her to be a strong woman with a mantra that she can only truly rely on herself to define her path in life. And that's exactly what Evelyn has done. She doesn't do relationships or emotional attachments. Except, that's exactly what Jameson wants. He wants a commitment.
The chemistry between Evelyn and Jameson leaped off the page and made me smile. The sex scenes were super steamy and filled with dirty talk. But aside from the time between the sheets (and against a wall/door), there were also emotional moments and tons of angst here. You witness the internal struggle Evelyn faces, trying to break through that facade she's spent her entire life building. And I absolutely, totally loved Jameson, his patience, and his ability to read Evelyn. Side note, while I understood Evelyn's mom and her desire to build that strength in her daughter, I didn't appreciate her judging Evelyn on her decision. Especially considering she hadn't shared all the details.
I loved these two together so I wanted an epilogue. We do get a glimpse of them in the next book in the series (Imagine Me). But I wanted to have that at the end of this story.
This book can be read as a stand alone, but if you like to read in order, you do get an update on Evelyn and Jameson in the next book in series (Imagine Me), I actually received Imagine Me when I picked up this book. But I loved that one and this one so much, I ended up buying both and this author now has a new fan as well.
I really enjoyed their story, and their banter between one another, and stayed up until 3:30 am last night to finish reading this book (which I am only regretting a little this morning, haha). I give this book 4.5⭐ out of 5⭐, and cannot wait to read more by Fiona Cole.
Evelyn is a difficult person for me. I had trouble connecting with her at the beginning, but as I got to know her better and understand her actions I started to love her even more. And Jameson… He’s a sexy, patient and loyal friend. I totally loved him. He knows what he wants and he understands and respects Evelyn. They were just the perfect imperfect couple. And they had the best chemistry ever! They had a lot of steamy scenes and dirty talk, and yet it was also funny and emotional.
Jameson, on the other hand, is much more steady and consistent, although some questions could be asked about his blowing hot-and-cold as well. But it's set in my hometown, the plot moves along well, if not making some "puddle jumps" over small logical fallacies or inconsistencies, and the steam is very good, balanced with a healthy dose of heart.
I'm DEFINITELY going to read more by Fiona in the future!!
