About Denysé Bridger
Canadian born and bred, and a lifelong dreamer, I began writing at an early age and can't recall a time when I wasn't creating in some artistic form. My life has had several on-going love affairs that shape much of what I write, the American West, Victorian England, cowboys, a passion for pirates, Greek Gods, and Ancient Egypt. The other endless love affair in my life is Italia and all its magic, beauty, and dazzling culture. That passion spills into all aspects of my life.
My first major fantasy novel is AS FATE DECREES. (Available in bookstores everywhere, and on Amazon's international sites.) The novel relies heavily on Greek Mythology, and is set in Ancient Greece and modern Athens. If you enjoy a tale of Gods, Destiny, and the battles of an Eternal Champion, this is the book for you! (Less than six months after publication, it was a finalist for the 2008 Aurora Award.) Not surprisingly, there's a touch of romance throughout, of course! A visit to my website will show the diversity of what is currently available, and the mixing of genres and styles that will be employed in many up-coming projects as well.

Well-bred and genteel, Valerie Johnson travels by train and stagecoach from Boston to join her husband three thousand miles away in Virginia City, Nevada, only to discover she is a widow. Low on money, unable to find respectable employment, she accepts a temporary position as a courtesan at Rosie's Parlor—an elegant Virginia City brothel.
When godlike Duke Dugan picks Valerie, they both wonder if it is lust or love at first sight.
Fascinated by the beautiful, flaming-haired prostitute he calls Red, Duke, wishing to learn more about her, takes her to dinner in Virginia City's finest restaurant. To her dismay, Valerie finds out that Duke is a rebel captain, who, along with his two brothers, is on a desperate mission for the despised Confederacy. She would tell the authorities, except there's one problem—she's fallen in love with him.
Before you leave, I want you to go into Carson City and get provisions.
Cody looked surprised. "Isn't that dangerous?"
"Yes, that's why I want you to take Valerie with you. You'll look less suspicious if a woman's with you."
"As you wish, Cap'tin." Cody turned to Valerie. "Are you ready?"
Valerie was taken totally off guard, but she understood the reason Duke wanted her to go with Cody. It made sense. They would appear as a farmer or a rancher and his wife, buying provisions for the fortnight. "I didn't bring a dress?"
"Doesn't matter. Half the women hereabouts wear men's clothing. It's more functional."
She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm ready when you are."
He grabbed her hand. "Let's go."
She accompanied Cody, riding the same sorrel mare on which she rode to Carson City. They hadn't ridden a hundred yards when Cody exclaimed, "Whoowee, look who's playing married with the pretty lady. Too bad I don't get to try out the side benefits of being married."
Valerie bit her tongue to keep from smiling. "You are incorrigible."
"Does that mean, can't act normal?"
She did laugh. "Something like that. You are acting much too joyful for a morose farmer."
"Let me tell you. Even a morose farmer would be joyful around you. You're like a ray of sunshine."
Time to change the subject. "Cody, what do you want to do after the war?"
"I want to start a ranch. Then, I'd like to find a classy woman as pretty as you and make her my wife. I would never treat her like some men treat their wives—beating them, going to saloons or even brothels. I would treat my wife like a queen."
Valerie couldn't think of what to say after that, so she rode on in silence.
Cody laughed. Then he leaned across the space between the horses and kissed Valerie's cheek.
Wide-eyed and mouth open in shock, she turned to Cody. "What—"
His lips formed that bad boy smile that made her think of sex. "Sorry. I just felt like kissing my future sister-in-law. If'n I can't have you, the next best thing is you being my sister-in-law."
"I know, incorrigible. Watch this." Cody whipped his dark brown stallion with the rein until it galloped.

"5 Cups!...Keeps you glued to your seat, reading until all hours. You will discover what someone will do to protect someone they love. This book takes you to the days of the Wild West and gives a whole new meaning to 'Ride 'Em Cowboy.' If you are a Western Lover, this book is for you."—Sherry, Coffee Time Romance
"4 Angels!...An unvarnished look at the 'live by the gun, die by the gun' mentality of the Old West. Maggie is content in her career as a bartender, but when Dylan needs her, she gives up everything to help him out. She's my favorite kind of heroine - spirited, sassy, and independent. Dylan is a guy in simply the wrong place at the wrong time, but comes to realize that he wants Maggie for more than the short term. A wonderful novella by Denyse Bridger."—Michelle, Fallen Angel Reviews
"5 Moons!...Outstanding! Even though the book begins in a rather typical fashion, it is always interesting. Ms. Bridger is a very good narrator, and she builds a sense of suspense and curiosity about the characters and plot throughout the book. She mixes in some interesting historical facts, and the underlying eroticism between Dylan and Maggie makes the book move quickly and evenly. Everyone who is interested in the post-Civil War era will enjoy this book. There are very well-developed supporting characters in this book as well."—Ruth Moderhak, Mystique Books
“I’d like to get to bed some time tonight, Mr. Coulter,” Maggie interjected, and almost fainted with embarrassment over her choice of words when he turned his insolent smile on her, and the undercurrent of innuendo filled the space between them like a tangible presence.
“Far be it from me to keep a lady out of her bed,” he murmured, his eyes dancing with amusement as she glared at the three of them when they all laughed at her.
“Good night!” he snapped with ill grace and strode from the café, the solid thump of her shoes on the wooden planks testimony to her annoyance.
When Dylan caught up with her, she was waiting outside the Spur, and a glance told him that her mood had soured considerably in the brief minutes she’d been forced to wait for him. He unlocked the door, handed her the key, and tried to keep the smile off his face as he trailed her to the upper level. When the door to her rooms slammed shut with a bang that probably woke every other person in the place, he let himself laugh quietly.
Entering the clean, tidy room, Dylan loosened the leather thong that kept his gun held close to his thigh, then unbuckled his gun belt and hung it on the peg next to the door. He tossed his jacket on the bed, unbuttoned his vest and slid his tie free of his collar. Continuing his trek to the door that opened onto the balcony that ran along the entire upper floor of the saloon, he stepped outside and lit a cheroot.
He was leaning against the wall of the building, smoking in silence a short while later, when the door at the other end of the balcony opened and Maggie came out into the night. She wore a thin cotton nightgown, and her sun-kissed golden hair was loose and cascading in heavy waves down the curving length of her back. She closed her eyes and leaned forward, hands braced on the solid wooden railing.
