I haven’t tried out the book yet however it did not come in new condition. There are stains on it and a bit of water damage. I will still use it but just a heads up, you might not get a brand new copy.

Dr. Vaughn’s clinical expertise in and around depression and mindfulness is second to none. Practical, insightful and hands on, I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of the book and read it start to finish. Using simple but effective exercises, Dr. Vaughn offers a tool kit for how to work through anxiety, stress and depression. I enjoyed how easy it was to employ and engage with her techniques. I also found her approach and writing to be easy to apply and understand. I plan to share many of these techniques and exercises with my kids and father. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in learning and enabling themselves with excellent self care tools.

Purchased the Depression Relief Journal and hopeful it will aid in dealing with depression. The creative prompts and mindfulness practices are beneficial. Quality of printing could be better, hence 4 stars. Overall, a useful resource.

As a believer in therapy who knows how art and writing can alleviate my mood and give me perspective, I picked up Maggie Vaughan's journal, intrigued. This book exceeded my expectations, from the thoughtfully written introduction describing depression and ways to alleviate it to the varied exercises. As someone with some ADHD, I took the author' s advice and didn't gobble it whole in one sitting, I did one exercise a day. The drawing exercises at first glance look simple but when I sat down and actually did them, I was surprised how they centered me and gave me a lovely moment to self-reflect in a chaotic day. Some of my favorite exercises include drawing a crown on a rooster's head, writing an apology letter, notes to myself about self-care (I'm a working mom with two kids so these reminders are essential), drawing a person in my life who struggles, writing a recipe for happiness and so many others. I highly recommend this insightful, thoughtful and yes, fun journal for not only those who suffer from depression but anyone with a pulse who has stressors, fears and conflicts to resolve. Thank you for creating this unique journal!

I really love this book! I’m a therapist, and I use some of the journaling prompts with clients. I also made photocopies of some of the pages that have longer explanations of the prompts, since the author does a great job of explaining the reasoning for certain exercises. There are also some lovely art exercises in here too. I know the book is geared towards depression, but I think many of the activities are relatable even if you are not experiencing depression and just want to take some time for yourself. You could even use this as a journal if you prefer structure when you write and reflect!
I’ll probably order a couple more copies to give out at the office. It’s a great resource! :)

The Depression Relief Journal goes deep and wide to touch the heart, soul, and spirit of the person suffering depression. This book is vital for healing in our present moment of isolation, fears, anxiety, and global tension that leads the brain to darkness and despair. Each page has its wisdom, practical application, and focused exercises guiding the depressed to hope, gratefulness, and enlightenment of what might be for them in their journeys alone and with others. This book is a gift for those suffering and wanting help and a hand to guide them out of the dark valley of life and into the light.
