Add Points of Interest to Your Work

The Derwent Blender and Burnisher do a great job of blending and smoothing colors to produce images that previously may have been more difficult to achieve. If you’re working with colored pencils and want to create a subtle blend, the Derwent Blender Pencil is the accessory to reach for. The Blender’s core is firm enough to really push into the colors below, and the Burnisher adds extra smoothness when applied over the Blender layer. The artists’ advantage is that this combination does not build up on the surface the way other blender pencils often do.

The Derwent Burnisher is a soft, colorless pencil made from the binder used for making colored pencils and allows you to blend two or more colors together to create a new color. At the same time it mixes and smoothes the colors, so individual strokes and hard edges are softened. The Burnisher is a hard colorless pencil, which when used over layers of pigment provides a well-blended, polished finish by pushing the pigment into the paper. It can also be used for a wax resist technique—draw your required design, this will add a layer of wax to the surface, then add your color. The wax layer will resist the colored pencil thus leaving that part of your drawing white. The fact that they come in a pack is great because artists tend to run out quickly!

  • Blender softens strokes and hard edges while mixing colors
  • Burnishing is ideal for creating sparkling glass, polished surfaces, and metals
  • Pack includes 2 blander pencils, 2 burnisher pencils, plastic sharpener, and plastic eraser
Blender and Burnisher Set
Use a Burnisher Pencil to Create Interesting Effects

Use the wax resist technique to create areas of white and interesting effects. With the Derwent Burnisher draw a shape or cover an area you want to remain white and then paint over the top with Derwent watersoluble media. The paint will not adhere to the areas where you have put the colorless Burnisher. This drawing of a wall was created using this technique. Draw the shape of the bricks using the burnisher and then a wash was applied over the top using Aquatone.

I love these product, works well with several brands of pencils like prismacolors, derwent, carayola, caran d'ache and even with polychromos, the sharper and the eraser also are very good, additionally the price is ok. Do not use on black paper because it leaves a subtle trace

I really think these are great, they do a great job at blending, defiantly enhances the color, smooths the color out, and of course blends colors together. I use prismacolor colored pencils and I have the prismacolor blenders, I like this blender much much better! It seems softer and makes a smoother looking finish. I haven't tried the pencil sharpener and eraser yet. Defiantly will buy again when they wear out.... Oh and they last a long time!

I recently hoped on the adult coloring book bandwagon, who knew I'd enjoy coloring so much more now than as a child? The one thing that bugs me about color pencils is that it is difficult to get a smooth finish. Granted I'm not using "artist quality" pencils, and it is unlikely that I will, however I still want visual smoothness in the color I lay down; I get that from this product. Whether I'm doing single color pressure gradations, or blending color, or smoothing out a single color, this blender works like a charm. I highly recommend it!

Derwent is always one of the best brands on the market. This package is a great deal at $9, since you get two burnishers and 2 blenders and an eraser and pencil sharpener. The sharpeners I save to us in my Derwent battery operated pencil sharpener which takes 2, so you have two different point options, sharp point tip or flat tip, without having to change settings AND 5 different hole sizes to accommodate ALL thicknesses of pencils from ANY brand.

I also own the really expensive electric ones, two of them, a Hunt Boston and a Panasonic, which are almost impossible to find new, but seem to use my Derwent the most. Go figure!

I got a chance to try these individually in a local art store. I ended up purchasing the burnisher and leaving the blender. The blender I tested seemed crumbly to others I tried. It was okay. Nothing really jumped out at me as needing to have it immediately. When I run out of the blenders I have, then maybe. The burnisher, on the other hand, is perfect, and what I've been looking for all this time.

I wanted something to use with softer lead colored pencils like my Prismacolors without adding yet another heavy wax coat and suffer more crumbles and flaky smudges. The burnisher does as I hoped and pushes the Prismacolor wax to fill in uncolored holes, blend and smooth out texture, all without adding too much wax build up. This puts the Derwent Burnisher ahead of the Prismacolor's own blender for my use. Another nice feature is it doesn't wear out as fast as the blender pencils do. I would so buy this set if I could just get 4 burnishers. I'll keep this in my list for ordering when I need them and if I can't get to the local art store.

I used the blender. It crumbled and left a mess on my paper. I used the burnisher. It is supposed to give a glossy sort of look. Nothing. A waste of money. I recommend "Finesse colored pencil blender pen". It's a little pricey, but it works!

I gave these 5 stars because there isnt one thing wrong with them .they are really great tools for your art creating effects that enhance the beauty of it. They just arent my first choice for blending . I have already gotten used to using another type of blender and I guess I am j just too set in my ways. These do work really well with Derwent Metllic colored pencils. On everything I do I try these 2 pencils and the other one I use . Then I pick the one that looks best.
