In Descent of Blood you get to view the world in a darker sort of way. These are not your “Twilight” type of vampires; this is how vampires are supposed to be written. When the story starts you find the characters in the middle the War of the Roses which took place in the 1400’s. We experience this story through the eyes of the vampire priestess, Philabe and the things that she witnesses as she is a keeper of records. During the course of the story she makes notations of things that are to be recorded for those to come in the future so that their stories are told.
Enter the handsome Severian, who also is a vampire and is fighting in more than one war to ensure survival. From the moment that he meets the love Lady Meridian, he knows that things are going to be complicated as she the pure human that the prophecy of the Red Veil speaks of, which means that she is able to take a vampire lover. As soon as she touches him his body knows who she is and he swears to reunite her with her kin while all the while, his body and spirit desire to possess her in every way. While the Red Veil, beckons him to possess her, Meridian, a strong character on her own, has her own thoughts and the direction that her life will lead and it does not include anyone possessing her.
Together with their group of character in tow, they must protect each other for survival in a human world, overcoming many obstacles in their path to protect the priceless item that Meridian carries with her to be reunited with her people.
Elizabeth did a fabulous job of painting vampires in a historical and ancient way. A gothic twist on historical paranormal with a well-researched world that came alive around the well-developed characters who keep you captivated with their tale until the end. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series as well as many others by this author.
Also, I really enjoyed the true romance between the two main charactors. The Red Veil was a very nice touch as was the main male charactor's mindful devotion to his love interest. The building romance and atraction betweeen the main charectors was beautfully written and culminated. I especially enjoyed their first meeting when she, the gutsy woman that she was, shot him with an arrow, and the remainder of the storyline that built on that incident.
It is really wonderful to find another great romance/paranormal/fantasy writer who can actually write instead of depending on frequent sex scenes to fill pages until the end. I have already purchased 2 more of her books today and look forward to buying more in the future.
Wow if this was the prequel I can't wait for the main books!
How distracted did I get???
The tale of love and hate woven by Elizabeth Marx is one that you won't want to put down. Just when you think you have the whole mystery solved Ms. Marx throws in another twist! With some difficult to read moments the love tends to triumph. Will it triumph over all? The boys got chicken biscuits for dinner last night........however hubs did dishes........
Set in 1465 England men are fighting for the crown while vampires are worried what will happen if the King falls from power. Vampire prince, Severian Pearce, helps a human Meridian Neville and is falling for her.
Meridian is falling for the vampire as she struggles with knowing love and relationships between mortals and vampires is forbidden and accepted by each. Severian discovers the red veil , and this veil is the key to the future of the vampire and mortal woman.
A very interesting vampire tale, quite unique. I am a fan of Elizabeth Marx and love her work. I also recommend Binding Arbitration and Cutters Vs. Jocks, A Prequel Novella to Binding Arbitration also by Elizabeth Marx.
I fell for Severian Pearce, the vampire prince who is totally alpha, He falls for the beautiful and innocent, but strong Meridian. So a fantastic start to a new series that I would recommend to any book lover.
