I loved this book. The science? I don't know, but the book is certainly thought provoking and entertaining to read. I do not know how I missed it for years and years. I understand that Elaine Morgan has been scolded and somewhat ignored by the scientific community and the book considered speculative and I guess it is, but I still really enjoyed the subject matter and her writing style. Intuitively, the book makes a great deal of sense to me as to the evolution of the modern homo sapiens in terms of intellect and physicality. One sex doesn't evolve despite the other.

The idea of MAN evolving and more less setting the terms of FEMALE evolution seems suspect. Man the hunter with woman the facilitator and breeder evolving to support the guy chasing the antelopes.... Naw! More to it than that, I think.

I read this book when it was first published in the 70s and when I found out it had been republished I jumped at the chance to read it again. It provides insight to an ignored aspect of evolution that I find very compelling. If you're interested in the development of the human race I urge you to give this book a try.
