Organics Hair Care Shampoo Coconut 8 fl.oz

I have REALLY long, wavy hair. The ends tend to get dry and frizzy, but I'm pretty active, so I need to wash my scalp frequently. While, I've only been using natural hair care products, A LOT of those "natural" products still contain emulsifying waxes and silicones. They also never seemed to really clean my scalp thoroughly. So, my scalp would soon feel like it needed to be washed again, while the wax and silicone was making my ends even drier :-(

I would see Desert Essences in Whole Foods all the time, but thought it seemed pricey for only 8oz, so I kept steering toward the "better values". Frustrated with inferior shampoos and fragrances I didn't like, I finally took a chance on Desert Essence Organics (Coconut)!

+1: Desert Essence Organics contains NO silicones(or waxes from what I see), parabens, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates, phthalates, petroleum...) - HUGE plus for them, even before I used it.

+2: It's Vegan, Wheat & Gluten Free

+3: It smells great. I also happen to LOVE coconut though.

+4: Although it did seem pricey for 8oz, I found that I use WAY less than I've ever used of any other shampoo. As I mentioned, I have really long hair (down to my waist). The consistency is a little runnier than some shampoos (it almost runs out of the bottle by itself - definitely don't squeeze hard), so I was initially worried that I'd go through the bottle in no time. I actually needed very little. It would take the same time or longer than some other shampoos for me to finish this bottle.

+5: It cleans my scalp wonderfully! Dare I say, it was actually squeaky clean.

Sometime in late 2012 (as far as I can tell) my favorite shampoo in the world was reformulated for reasons unknown to me. Why Desert Essence would want to change the most amazing shampoo into what it is now vis unthinkable. It was my number one shampoo that made me stop using any other shampoo. Together with its matching conditioner it was unbeatable for body, shine, and gentle but thorough cleaning. My wavy hair curled even more and had tons of body. One day I went out and bought a new bottle only to find that my hair was dull, lifeless and felt like it had a coating after use. I thought that I had gotten a bad batch so I went out and purchased two or three more from different places but with the same result. I called Desert Essence to ask them why they had reformulated it and the answer I received was that they were trying to use more natural ingredients. When I stated that its performance was poor, the woman on the phone simply said "I'm sorry" and I was told there were no plans at that time to return to the original formulation. I have since been trying shampoo after shampoo with no luck in finding anything that works near as good. I hope that others will also contact Desert Essence and tell them they want the old formula back. Perhaps with enough requests (and lagging sales) they will listen.

Update: As of this date (April 2015), I have been unable to find anything that works as well as the original Desert essence coconut shampoo and conditioner and I have spent a lot of money searching. I want to post their contact information for anyone who wishes to contact them and request that they restore the original formulations:

We have struggled for years with my daughter's oily hair. She washed it every morning and when she got home from school it was already oily again. We have tried every expensive shampoo on the market. This overall has been the best for her hair and our wallet. While not cheap, it is inexpensive for something that works this well on hair like hers. She still has to wash her hair every day, but now we can go dinner in the evening without her having to rewash her hair. We even had family portraits done at 6:00 PM and she did not have to wash her hair before going.

This photo is from our photo shoot with her hair having been washed at 6AM and the portrait being taken at 6PM!

I have med thick wavy hair, porous, that gets oily on top.

The last 8 or so shampoo's I have bought have been a disaster. They weigh my hair down, build up the more you use it, and make it so I must wash my hair every day.

I bought the Lemon shampoo and conditioner as I read someone else say that it was the best ever. Now, I can wash my hair every other day, and the second day, my hair is bouncy and full just like the first!

Other shampoos have silicones in them to slick the hair shaft. The second day, my hair looked flat and greasy.

The conditioner also allows me to put it even on my scalp and not just the ends. Other conditioners were so heavy I couldn't put them anywhere but my ends because they would flatten the scalp hair with too many oils.

Also....the tea tree does your scalp wonders. My scalp had been a little itchy, and if I scratched it, there was that moist white "coating" under my fingernails. Just one shampoo with the Lemon shampoo and your scalp will feel "normal", and if you scratch your head, there will be next to nothing under your nails.

My hair just feels so much healthier. Not dry, not oily. Just perfect. I have also used it about 3 times now, every other day, and it does not build up to make your hair flatter and flatter. It's bright and fluffy every time.
Will stick with this one.
