I have read many of the "desert rogues" books. I find them entertaining - often times for the writing and a lot of time for the silliness of it all. My husband and I have started making regular sheik jokes and he's started giving me a hard time when I read them.

PROS - Entertaining writer makes for an easy read, the stories are linear so it's fun to read about what happens to each person and continue to follow their stories from book to book, sexual and violent content is "adult" but I don't think makes it to erotica. I think they are iconic of your classic romance novel and Harlequin type romances.

CONS - Author uses the same terms/phrases in nearly every book. I can't remember the phrase off hand, but it's weird and she uses it in every one of her books. It's started to get annoying. Also, the plots are pretty similar - girl/boy meet, they know each other for practically now time and have sex, girl resists boy, boy demands respect, and repeat. The narrative and dialogue is just different enough to make reading the books entertaining, but the sub-current and basic plot points are all the same. It gets pretty predictable.

Overall, I like these books for an easy read and a good laugh, but after reading 5-6 of them I just stopped because "finding out what happened to __________" just wasn't enough to keep my interest anymore.

The story of Daphne and Murat is a rather intriguing love story with lots of twists and turns in the relationship. for me, her objections became rather boring after a long period of time and, in view of the fact she was already in love with the Prince, I am not sure what she was tryhing to prove. Nevertheless, the stories of Susan Mallery are always entertaining and this one was as well.

Susan Mallery does a wonderful job tying in the characters from the other books so you get little snippets here and there about how their lives are progressing. Excellent romance and I've enjoyed all of the heroes and heroines. She also has an amazing sense of humor which just adds to the quality of the story.

It's so good to know that women don't know what they really want, and that all we need is an oppressive, autocratic man to tell us how to live our lives. It's this kind of thinking that makes women stay in unhealthy relationships. Brava Susan Mallery for writing a story that makes women look like idiots who can easily be bought with a few clothes and a fancy setting.
