One note is the screws are a hair under ¾ inches with the threaded portion about ½ inches. See photo.
For a new install the screw length should not be a problem unless security is an issue where longer screws are required. I used my own 1-1/4 inches screws since the hinge replaced a hinge with existing holes in the door. One inch screws would have worked, but I just happened to have 1-1/4 inch matching screws. I would not knock off any points since lots of other manufacturers supply the same screws lengths. Just have longer screws available if you need them.
How long will this hinge last before needing replacing? Just about all residential grade hinges will wear and may squeak over time. The speed of the wear is due to the weight of the door, the quality of the metal, number of open/close cycles and quality of the installation details. If the two halves of the two or three hinges fit together easily before putting in the pin then there will be less wear over time. If the halves of the hinges do not fit together easy such as having to give them hard taps to fit together and/or one or more halves is out of horizontal or vertical alignment then there will be more wear over time and squeaks will start earlier.
Did I just write all that for a simple hinge? :-)
I had hinges that the prior homeowner had painted by error, a few that were rusty, a few that had dried up grease, etc. So I bought a ton of these and replaced hinges on probably 12+ doors. ALL the creaking and squeaking was gone. The horrible looking painted hinges were now replaced by beautiful, new hinges that now better matched the door hardware.
For about $84 (12 hinges), I had refreshed an often unnoticed part of the house. And no more squeaking. And better, consistent closing and shutting of doors (some were hard to open before, others swung too easily). I highly recommend you make this simple change and I highly recommend this product.
First 2 pics are of the older hinges. Note build up of grease and paint all over. One is missing the rod. The next 2 are the new ones.
Thanks for reading.
As always, we received the product promptly with Prime shipping. They were very easy to install using a drill gun (my husband was so proud of me). With our heavier metal doors, we were experiencing sagging so they would never close all the way without having to lift up on the door.
After replacement, I saw much improvement but our back door still wasn't closing properly. I was able to identify that the shorter screws over time had stripped the holes so they were not bearing the true weight of the door. For those screws, I replaced the screw itself with a 2" wood screw to ensure it was securing to the door and bearing the weight.
The door now works like a charm, and we are no longer paying to provide AC to the hot outdoors!
Very affordable and easy fix for a pesky problem.
